Took me about 30+ years to actually understand this concept.

Gary Vaynerchuk such good advice! My kids grew up hearing, “You get to decide how you feel/act.” “I hit her because she made me mad when she took my toy.” No no no. On all the levels. But so many walk into adulthood with that exact mentality. My mood is dependent upon how others treat/speak to me. Kids can be brutal to one another. Raw. Unfiltered. So, we would talk through how others behave, through actions and words, is mostly a reflection of them - not you. That was laying a foundation for compassion and empathy. In the moment, when someone’s coming at me with ugliness, it can be hard to see that behavior as a “them” issue. But when I can see their ugly behavior as a result of their pain, it helps me to process what’s happening rationally, rather than through emotions. Everyone wins. When my emotional response is negative, that is saying something about me - not the person being ugly to me. Those negative emotional responses are an invitation to interact with my thoughts. Something the person did or said triggered a thought in me that led to my negative emotion. When I dig into what’s driving that emotion, I can start healing whatever hurt is there. That will help lead to starting off more days happy.

Happiness is a choice! Choosing happiness involves reframing challenges as opportunities for growth. By adjusting our perspective, we empower ourselves to find joy in the journey. Happiness is a byproduct of mindful living. Being present in the moment allows us to appreciate life's simple pleasures, fostering contentment and joy. While we can't always control external circumstances, we can control our responses.
