I've loved so many things about Catalonia, and learnt so much from embracing all that this region offers. I understand/appreciate its fight for independence, proud acknowledgment of its language, it's own special celebrations and traditions. One of many is how they choose to spend their tourism tax . Here it is put to good use, when doing my thesis research, I learnt about the many social aspects they invest this money in for the community first (and then visitors to enjoy). So many nationalities, and diverse cultures here, levels of income is so varied, so the city tries to be is inclusive, maybe this doesn't put food on the table, or pay the bills. But they invest in all types of events - ensuring everyone has access to enjoyment all year round, we have to remember that enjoyment is ok, it's important for wellbeing and the soul. Here they put on so many events that are 100 % free for everyone to enjoy. Art/culture/music so no one is excluded. Every first Sunday of the month, free entry into museums and galleries for locals. In these times where we are surrounded with doom, we need to smile, and we all need to remember to feel alive, be part of something, a sense of place and belonging, escape once in a while to build up strength, socialise, share ideas, and believe there is hope. 🤩 Social event impacts are powerful, they are transformational, and an excellent tool for learning on all levels. This photo was taken in balmes before a free concert was going to happen, full stage and set. All around Catalonia there are events, all the time, all year round, bringing communities together to celebrate nothing, but just about being present and together, and inclusive. (Note ; The Tourism tax is also invested in various infrastructure projects around the city to enhance the wellbeing of the community from the impacts of tourism, and the climate Emergancy). #socialimpact #socialinclusivity #positivetourism #transformation #impact
