Today is the last day of the week. A time for rest, relaxation and time to contemplate what has happened over the past week, month or year. Today is for some people here a day where they finish one job and tomorrow start a new one or the prospect of searching for a new career. Many people have been in their old jobs for several years. A lot has happened, what with Covid, hybrid working and a change in position with company structures. People have changes too. New glasses, what we wear and how we look. Your old photo that was taken back when you started your old job is more than likely very much out of date? For a new start you might well need to reflect that? They say be authentic. I'm certainly that. They say, -it's OK be #vunerable so, here I go . . . I find myself between jobs. My part-time job is unreliable and the schedule changes weekly making it difficult to plan. My current job is at a gambling parlor I'm a seasoned business professional who ran one of the premier #LuxuryRetail showrooms for couture linens, 23 years.. I was the Creative Director, and I was our buyer. Another function, was crafting our #marketing plan. I had to #budget and #negotiate deals to get the best #roi. I am alway studying platforms and there best value. I'm #strategicmarketer I arranged printing, and where to advertise. We planned newsworthy events to attract our top tier designers, their clients, and local editors. We arranged coverage in shelter publications and trade journals. I am an lifestyle expert, knowlegable about fabrics, #linens and #homedecor. I grew up in the restaurant industry. It's a place where I'm comfortable. I've been looking at bartender jobs, but I want to be in a chill sophisticated atmosphere like a high-end hotel. Having been a chemist and High School Math Tutor, I'm a bit of a nerd. I'm accomplished artist who paints and does ceramics. I've been a community activist, collaborating with art and business. I have shared my knowledge for over two decades. This last year, my husband, and business partner, has been gravely ill. He is receiving chemo for Lymphoma but, ultimately he will need a liver transplant. I have been navigating life mainly alone, living with my son, while Rob receives treatment at a Northbrook nursing home. I'm here in Chicago, in Logan Square. I need Peace of Mind - a regular paycheck to keep my head above water. A nice #community of coworkers and people would be icing on the cake. I have not done remote work but am looking. One of the most satisfying things to see as a manager: Witnessing team members network - putting themselves out there by meeting people around the organization and outside of it. Getting to know someone and learning about what they do. During those conversations, it's okay to say - “What you’re working on is interesting, if there is ever an opportunity on your team or at your company, I’d be interested”. Maybe it’ll turn into something one day. You just never know! Met with someone earlier this week who did this very well: Turns out we both are into photography and are in the same fraternity. We ended up talking about photos and roles in customer service. I enjoyed every bit of the conversation. Here’s the way I like to think about it: Don’t let an application be the first time a hiring manager is hearing from you. #careergrowth #networking

Have you ever been stuck? I mean so stuck you don’t know what to do next? Unable to take a step forward? That is what happened to me when I painted this picture. The method to paint the ground plants escaped me. I talked with the instructor, watched others, thought into it - nothing. I was afraid! Afraid to ruin what to that point was a painting I was very proud of. Not a art studio masterpiece, but it was for me. Then I decided to act. And I was even more proud of the results. #Careertransition is like that. Not knowing where to focus or what to do. Afraid you may miss the best opportunity. So we talk to many many many people, read resources, think. But without action it falls flat. I have helped over 207 people find that job that really energizes them. It was a process to uncover their internal perspectives. We focused on actions, what could they do, what do they want to do, what are they prepared to do, what are their dreams. We found the right jobs, applied and prepared for the interview. How It All Began as told by Marc Bondy, CEO & Founder I started my career as a professional actor (and still work from time to time on stage and screen). In my mid 20s, I moved to Toronto after turning down a third season at the Stratford Festival. The acting work was sporadic and I found myself looking for work between acting jobs. I stumbled across a large experiential marketing company. They purported to hire “Brand Ambassadors”. I was intrigued -this was my first introduction to the term. During the interview they sold me on the idea that being an outgoing and charismatic people-person; I would thrive in this work. My first gig was promoting Crest toothpaste at various retail locations. It sounded fun! It wasn't until I arrived at head office for training that I learned crucial bits of information that would have given me pause before accepting the gig. Things like this: 1) I’d need to lug around a display kit in my car. It took up my entire little Dodge Neon. 2) I had to set said kit up, tear it down and store it daily. 3) The real kicker... although my role was to hand out coupons, I learned that my performance would be tied to how many units of Crest toothpaste were sold during my four hour shift. Tricky to do when sometimes they barely had any inventory to start with and other times their product was on the shelf nearest the floor. No matter; my performance was based on a metric that, often, was not an accurate representation of the work I did. This first “Brand Ambassador” (BA) job was one of several in a row that seemed to have “fine print” they neglected to explain ahead of time and left for me to discover onsite. I often thought to myself “If I were in charge I’d be honest with staff so they know exactly what they're signing up for. That way, I would know the people I hire are actually prepared to do the job." It seemed pretty straightforward to me. If you are honest with your staff, they will trust you and to do their best for you. Lying or “tricking” them can’t possibly have a good outcome. Now, not all BA jobs were bad. Some were quite fun and on rare occasions they were as advertised. On the good jobs I would encourage my friends to apply because I felt I had found the perfect flexible and part-time job for under-employed actors. One day, one of the marketing folks I was doing BA work for said to me “You know really good people. Everyone you refer are excellent at what they do. You could have a future in recruiting.” They went so far as to ask me if I could put a team together for a large-scale National program. I was flattered and I knew I had a great network of friends all over Canada whom I’d worked with as actors and many of whom were regularly between engagements. So I said yes. ...to be continued

Does anyone else feel like job postings are getting extremely specific? My internal monologue while reading posts... 👇 "Must have running experience" - I chase my kids and own tennis shoes, does that count? "Must have fashion experience" - hmmm... I wear clothes and sometimes they match, does that count? "Must have beauty experience" - well, I do my own makeup and do my daughters nails (she's VERY particular), does that count? "Must have alcohol experience" - I did college, does that count? "Must have car experience" - I do have a license and can in-fact drive a car (maybe not great, but I get from point A to point B), does that count? I talk myself out of throwing my name in the hat all the time, or I do throw my name in and fear someone will not think my "experience" is qualified. As a creative one of my favorite things to work on is something I have NEVER worked on EVER. It's new and exciting and gets my creativity flowing and I start exploring things I never thought of before. Maybe instead of hiring someone who's done the exact work you're looking for a million times take a chance on someone who's never done it. You might be blown away with their excitement, enthusiasm and ideas. If you want to take a chance with someone new - take a chance on me.

**What Strikes You?** As a teenager and student, I held multiple part-time jobs, which rarely make it onto a CV. My professional journey began after a summer of Work & Travel USA in 2012, where I learned that working long hours alone doesn’t necessarily lead to financial success. In 2013 and 2014, I balanced full-time jobs with full-time studies. While I plan to resume my professional studies in 2024, my career has been non-stop since 2013, spanning accommodation and hospitality, finance and audit, automotive, and digital marketing. Reflecting on these experiences, two factors have consistently pushed me forward: 1. **Nurturing Human Connections** 2. **Harnessing Creative Force** These principles may seem abstract, but their versatility means they apply to a wide range of scenarios. In 2021, I watched the documentary 'Abstract: The Art of Design', and I was struck by how individual creative geniuses collaborate with teams to enhance everyday life through architecture, photography, footwear design, graphic design, scenography, interior design, automotive design, and illustration. One field that demands high creativity is corporate merch, where I currently work. Like everyone, I’m still learning to work efficiently and healthily, balancing duties, accountability, growth, mental and physical well-being, and life outside of work. But I’m happy with where I am.
