One of the biggest reasons why behavioural safety is so important is because it can help to prevent accidents before they happen.  By identifying unsafe behaviours and changing them, you can create a work environment that is much less likely to experience an accident.  Some important concepts were learned when going through this course.

Successful safety cultures exist when workplaces are not just physically safe, but psychologically safe too.     Without psychological safety, employees are far less likely to speak up about a near miss, to report an incident, or engage in constructive safety conversations for fear of retribution or having their opinions dismissed.     In fact, blame is recognised as one of the key behaviors that drives negative safety culture. When implementing a rule change or new way of doing things, always make the reasons for doing so clear—this makes employees more willing and likely to embrace the changes. Lessons learned are not just for management, but for everyone. Do keep in mind, however, that some reports were made anonymously and they should stay that way when you are discussing the contents of them. Worker participation is vital for any safety program to thrive.
