Hello again 🖐 😄 I just created a demo scene featuring Kratos in Unity to evaluate its real-time graphics against Unreal Engine. Do you think Unity can match the high visual quality many claim Unreal has? Thoughts? #GameDev #Unity3D #UnrealEngine
Amazing! Is this using HDRP?
It's not about the fidelity of graphics that is achievable - HDRP imho produces very nice effects. The main problem with Unity is with the optimization - if you simply create even a relatively small scene and fill it up with asseets to meet modern standards, then apply quality lighting and post-process - you quickly end up with lack-lusting performance of 25-30fps. You can avoid that to a degree - but that means putting absolutely huge pipeline effort into perfect optimization of every single asset, material etc. + comming up with sth. like custom streaming solution or whatever (as none such stuff has been built in to this day). In UE on the other hand you can build city-scene of 100k+ actors from store / ms, lit it up and it just runs... The difference is so huge atm that I think that Unity's days as AA+ platform are really numbered.
Unity's HDRP can match or come close to Unreal Engine's graphical capabilities, Unreal Engine is often still preferred for projects that require the highest level of graphical detail and realism. Unreal Engine has faster rendering than Unity HDRP with nanite. Great work Taoufik Kibba 👏👏
First of all: This looks amazing, great job! 👏 And to answer you question: No, it can't. If you are really pushing the limits and get the most of it, Unreal will produce the better visual results. But that doesn't mean you should discard Unity, as it has other strengths. And the visual quality you can achieve with Unity is good enough in most cases.
They are the same thing one comes out of the box ready the other a jack of all trades. Don't blame the engine it's the developer. But that being said your work looks amazing. Your only missing so fuzzy bloom and motion blurs and it's the same unreal.
If you know your stuff, like it seems you do, you know how to take advantage of the tools that you have in order to get the best result. I think unreal is the better engine in many ways. In my experience, the optimization and the user-friendly interface makes your life easier. That said, what you did here looks stunning, and if you hadn't said that this was unity, I would probably have believed that this was the actual game. A side by side comparison with an unreal-version would be interesting.
I’ve been using Unity for about a year and a half and have published a game with it. Recently, I started learning Unreal Engine, and after about a week of exploration, it seems more mature, especially in achieving high-quality graphics more easily and efficiently. Unity is highly versatile and has a strong community, making it great for a wide range of projects. However, Unreal Engine does have a reputation for superior graphical fidelity and performance, particularly with its built-in tools and default settings. That said, with the right skills and optimization, Unity can also produce stunning visuals. It often comes down to the developer’s expertise. Congratulations, great work, it is really cool!
I think Unity has come a long way, but Unreal takes the cake with visual fidelity. I'm not in coding so I can't speak to specifics too much but from the demos I've seen on both, I'd give it to Unreal. Again though, Unity has made impressive improvements over the years and isn't a bad choice by any means.
