Purchasing Proof’s personnel, #portfolio of creative works, and intellectual property is in line with Yuga’s goal of making web3 the #premier portal. Yuga will begin by introducing Moonbirds to Otherside, the hub for companies, #communities, and content producers to engage in the web3’s social fabric. Proof is a digital art platform and art collector #community that was co-founded in 2021 by digital artist Justin Mezzell and tech entrepreneur and media producer Kevin Rose. As I nodded to Pavel Samsonov's comment - see https://lnkd.in/g-kf33NS - I started wondering what was the last innovation I'd encountered & thought, 'yes, people have been saying how much they need that, at last, someone is supplying something new that people have been demanding.' First to mind were problematic moments when people would claim to have hacked together in a weekend something like a COVID vaccination booking system because the government produced one was clunky (see Dan Hon's critiques at the time, referenced here: https://lnkd.in/gUi7ssd9). Second to mind were near-Chindōgu like the helmet that protects you from dropping your phone while scrolling in bed: https://lnkd.in/gD-6ah7Z. The difficulty of coming up with good examples of articulated-demand-driven design (AD3™) made me think about how: > User-centred designers, if they exist, tend to be in-house, in which case they are servicing the demands being articulated only by users of some product/service/system. The job of such designers might be determined by listening to customers, but at the expenses of ever listening to non-customers asking for help with this or that, unless what those people want can be translated into this company's offerings, converting them into customers/users. > Strategic Design, as a subset of competitive strategy, focuses on finding demands before they have been widely articulated. If it is generally known that people are asking for something that is not impossible to do, then there will be no strategic advantage to satisfying that demand - disruptive innovators will undercut you faster than a kickstarter idea will get shanzhai-ed. The is why 'design-driven innovation' is the mythical idea of Apple coming up 'a solution to a problem you did not know you had - the thing you need before wanting it.' Both of these are why it's a bad idea to make the future of humanity depend on the ideas that people motivated by making fast money come up with. It is also leads to a situation in which investors with zero knowledge of little people sink vast amounts of money into new infrastructure scale technologies & then make designers work full-time on finding any 'innovation' that might allow their bad bet to win. I'm joining Pavel in snarking about the embarrassingly desperate 'push' behind so much so-called 'Al' - "every day another piece of garbAIge you never asked for!" - also because I am currently involved in something that I am thinking is could be characterised as 'social research led innovation' (SRLI™ - but it is not new). The intent is to surface articulated needs that exist precisely across organisations and systems & so go beyond the remit of in-house designers & even government department areas. More later.
