Back from a 3-week vacation… both wonderful AND tough! Here’s my personal experience and what I feel are the different stages we go through: 1️⃣🤹♀️Free time stage: 1st week is enjoying free time/not working… but not fully disconnecting. As your brain starts to unplug… it simultaneously starts to prep to go back. So one week is great to "do" other stuff, while keeping brain "on". 2️⃣🏝️Vacation stage: 2nd week is where magic really happens! You adapt to new normal and work mindset is further away. Two weeks is key to recharge. 3️⃣🧘🏼♀️Philosophical stage: 3rd week goes deeper. I went into more thinking around life purpose & goals, values and priorities. Coming back from that stage to deliverables at work is harder… but the reflection is worth it. What I noticed really helped me re-plug after "philosophical stage" is PEOPLE. Reconnecting with my awesome team and leaders, sharing common goals, challenges and achievements, looking at roadmaps as a group really helped me ease back in. The People aspect connected back to my values from Stage 3 and helped me reconcile personal goals and work. What has your experience been like? **To note that this is my personal analysis and doesn’t pretend to be anything data-driven!

As we step into July, we're greeted by the midpoint of the year—a perfect time to reflect, recharge, and refocus. 🌞 July is a month of warmth (hopefully!) both in temperature and spirit. It's a time for summer holidays, outdoor activities, and connecting with friends and family. But it's also a great moment to pause and assess our professional journey so far. ✅ **Reflect:** Take stock of the goals set at the beginning of the year. Celebrate the milestones achieved and acknowledge the challenges faced. 🔄 **Recharge:** Whether it's taking a well-deserved break or finding new ways to stay motivated, use this time to recharge your energy and creativity. 🎯 **Refocus:** With half the year ahead, there's ample opportunity to realign your strategies, set new objectives, and pursue your aspirations with renewed vigor. This post illuminates a pivotal inner reckoning on how we devote our precious lifeforce through work. Our relationship with earning is far more complex than just paying bills. Work can feel meaningful or meaningless with enormous consequences for happiness. Your questions stopped me short today - do I want just enough comfort from work to finance other life priorities? Or do I yearn for purpose and legacy through professional contributions? Powerful reflections as a new year dawns full of possibility. How liberating to give ourselves permission to inhabit each camp at different seasons. Neither makes us more valid humans. But ignoring which camp we currently occupy breeds confusion and despair. As you insightfully note, each mindset requires very different fuel and remedies to thrive. Passivity poisons just as much as misaligned ambition. Your post ignites my commitment to keep examining workview not just when crisis hits, but as a consistent inner pulse check. What do I want from my hours? How do I access inner wisdom when those wants conflict or evolve? Beyond resolutions, this new year requires fearless freedom in aligning workview and life vision. Even small steps honouring our sovereign right to purpose can reroute our whole trajectory. May clarity emerge in 2023 and beyond as we shape work to let our best selves shine through. I will be the change I want to see.

What’s your workview? Do you just want to be interested enough, work with nice people, get paid regularly, and still have time for a life? Or do you feel this nagging sense that your work also needs to be tied to a deeper purpose or legacy? Neither is right or wrong. And your view may change (I was in the first camp for my first career change, and then in the second camp for my second.) But, if you aren’t happy in your job - knowing how you’re viewing work in your life is an important first step. Because you’re going to be solving very different problems, depending where you fall. If you’re in the first camp - maybe you just need to get a different job that is less toxic, or a bit more aligned with your interests. Or maybe you just need to work on your boundaries, reframing thoughts, and managing your energy. If you’re in the second camp, that voice probably won’t leave you alone until you do some deeper digging.
