Tomorrow is the 1st anniversary of the InOrbit.AI Robot Space. We held our Grand Opening event in downtown Mountain View on Feb 3, 2023. Suffice it to say it's been an amazing year. We'll have more reflection in the coming days and weeks as we look back and dive into what's coming next. Before that, let's take a moment to recognize and celebrate the success of the #RobotSpace. The Robot Space has become a central part of the InOrbit story as a catalyst that encourages engagement with industry peers and our #community. Boston Dynamics has the only robots that are engineered with ability to convincingly maintain balance during dynamic spring motions - ie they’re the only robots capable of physical movements/actuation that are similar to untethered human athleticism. Ie Atlas doesn’t look like a puppet, but a human. 2. They’re also Really really resilient and can be quickly repaired. 3. That springiness is such a huge advantage because the physical world requires efficient solutions to deal with loads that dynamically shift centre of gravity. 4. Learning by tinkering and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible and having fun in the face of repeated failures - these are key attitudes in developing cultures and teams that deliver breakthroughs. https://lnkd.in/gCbkuBkd

Day 4 of Dr. John Vial's Robotics Challenge: How to give your robot a map For Day 4 I looked at how robots navigate and map their surroundings. In robotics, creating and using maps is crucial for navigation. We delved into Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) and explored the intricacies of ROS launch files. Here's what I learned: 1. SLAM allows robots to build a map of their environment while simultaneously determining their location within it. (RViz makes this easy to visualize). 2. Launch files in ROS are essential for setting up complex systems, chaining together various components like simulators, SLAM algorithms, and visualization tools. It was pretty cool to see the map dynamically update as the robot moves, constantly aligning new sensor data with the existing map. I'm looking forward to working more with this!
