It's time for one of those annoyingly humble gratitude posts. DOVISTA is part of a larger organisation, VKR Holding A/S, which funnels half of it's profits into charitable causes via the Employee Foundation of the VKR Group. As a fairly sizeable organisation, this represents substantial funding for some incredible causes which includes, but by no means is limited to, building homes in Romania (ably supported by volunteer labour from the likes of Ryan Stevenson and Isaac Ellard), providing livestock feed to Ukraine, supplying equipment to youth sports clubs, or in my case providing a sizeable donation to help fund the building of a new outdoor learning and exercise environment at my daughter's school. An incredibly valuable contribution at a time when finding funding for any sort of project is incredibly difficult as we all look anxiously to our own personal budgets! In an era of corporate cynicism it's a pleasure to directly see the benefits of the hard work put in across the board from both our staff and, more so some might say, our Distributors who do the hard work of actually supplying and fitting our windows to the market. If you’ve been following us for a while you would know we buy run-down properties and turn them into lovely homes for first time buyers and vulnerable tenants. We also work with individuals and sportspeople looking to invest in property, but who maybe don’t have the time or experience to get started, instead offering our end-to-end portfolio building services. BUT what you might not know is, we also run Happy Paws UK Rescue CIC, a not for profit company raising funds for our shelter in Bosnia, helping to save dogs from abuse and life on the streets, offering neutering and rehoming in the UK. Every year we host our charity dog ball, helping to raise funds for the charity, whilst hosting regular fundraising auctions and events to keep the shelter running. With so much suffering in the world, I often lay awake, pondering how can we support all this life in all its adversity — humans, water, forests, animals, air, insects, values ...!?" In the foundation work for Tribal Wisdom, I have found one of the answers is; through prayer. When we gather with the Elders who bring their Indigenous ceremonies, stories and medicines, we raise into a frequency that brings clarity and manifests a feeling of connection with all life. I am sure you have experienced this sense of Oneness at least once in your life (and yes, also sober 🍄) for instance in Nature or as a parent with your baby or when sailing at sea or looking into the eyes of a loved one. We can experience these alone, or sometimes with a group of people, where you are left with a euphoric feeling during or after a concert or festival, or for some, this is experienced in church or temple. This brings me back to ceremony and what KIVA does. With Elders, Wisdom Keepers and dedicated people from all over the world, this four-day prayer ceremony is held consecutively for four years in the same place. These places are touched by a renewed sense of community and the effects of cleaning and healing rituals, like the sweatlodge and sharing circles around the fire. Having attended several KIVAs in The Netherlands and Germany, we decided for this to be the cause to support this year, to raise at least €1111 on 11.11 for the KIVA fire to spread across the five continents.  For this to become reality a team of dedicated volunteers from all over the world is working hard to ensure the KIVA locations are set-up, the camp is ready, with food and accommodation for all attending and the Elders/Wisdom Keepers and a small group of guides from the KIVA Family can travel to several or all the KIVAs. Resources mobilization for the not-for-profit organizations is becoming more and more complex due to the emergence of many charitable organizations which are competing for the relatively small funding sources. Consequently there is need for NGOs to be more innovative in their approaches towards fund raising strategies in order to maintain their relevance and enhance their impact among the target populations who are the main beneficiaries of their activities.
