Thanks to mentors like Monali Bhansali and vamsi ravali, who acknowledged my work, I got the opportunity to lead crucial regulatory affairs projects. Managing intricate regulations and guiding a team through unexplored territory allowed me to refine my adaptability and recognize my leadership potential. I honed my skills in client management, communication, and team building across diverse cultures as I worked with clients from different geographies. Operating under tight deadlines, I witnessed the transformative power of collaboration and a can-do attitude. These experiences gave me confidence and prepared me for more substantial challenges. Despite my limited knowledge of networking and primarily coming from an electronics background, I was determined to immerse myself in projects requiring networking expertise. Thanks to the engaging nature of these projects, I gained invaluable experience and proficiency in networking over the course of four years. This initial phase laid a solid foundation for my career and develop profound understanding of the field. While exploring opportunities outside Tata Elxsi for personal and professional growth, I ventured into diverse experiences and achieved significant personal milestones. However, amidst these enriching experiences, I felt a strong inclination to return to Tata Elxsi. The organization had become akin to a second home, and I yearned to once again to be part of its dynamic and familiar environment.   I reached out to my former colleague, Abhilash Bharadwaj and his response reaffirmed my decision to return. This week, we delve into Sandeep Thombre’s inspiring journey at Tata Elxsi. “I joined Tata Elxsi in 2008, and since then, I’ve worked on significant projects and collaborated with insightful individuals, contributing to my professional growth”. Early in my career, I played a pivotal role in establishing a Satellite Studio in Pune, where I initiated the product design team. Overcoming the challenges of launching and expanding the team was a formative experience, resulting in substantial growth and increased traction. Transitioning to the Tata Elxsi London Design Studio marked another crucial phase. Under the leadership of Nick Talbot, the Global Design Head, I actively participated in talent acquisition, project leadership, and client management, primarily in Europe and the UK. Several projects stand out in my successful career, including the collaboration to design India’s first robotic arm. This project showcased the potential of design in driving product innovation and garnered international recognition. Throughout my tenure, I faced challenges, including managing a large-scale research project across Europe and the UK during the COVID-19 pandemic. The successful execution of this project underscored the importance of meticulous planning and effective management. I’ve had the privilege of working with notable individuals who significantly influenced my professional development. Mr. Shyamsunder Bk, the Head of the Product Design team for IDV, has been both an expert and a friend, providing invaluable insights into client and technology management. Additionally, Mr. Nick Talbot has been a guiding force, broadening my perspectives on global design and innovation. Is it right to switch jobs often - within a few months of joining? . . . what’s your view about it or did you have a similar experience which you want to share? What is done can’t be undone but we can always learn from it. I got a couple of offers & I accepted one from Philips Innovation Bangalore which was located near Ulsoor Lake. The location was beautiful, lake was within walking distance from the office. That was another attraction to join Phillips. Philips had very mature processes & culture back in 2005. - Project Manager - Software Architect  - Team Leads - Program Manager we had Peer review & architect code review I worked on set-top box EPG (Electronic program guide).  The code was modular - APIs to interact with other modules. Lots of learning & excitement. The cafeteria was also filled with lots of free food & snacks. All means for me to continue working there but in Bengaluru, 📌  It’s easy to find a job but sticking to it is difficult. My work with LGE Korea got me a call from LGIL. They had a position in R&D. It’s been three years since I left my home, and staying out of my comfort, home comfort attracted me back to my hometown Delhi. it was Feb 2006 when I landed back & joined LGIL. now I feel that I switched my job very often during that time. Because reason to change job is either of the below - Learning saturation. - Toxic environment. - Career Progression (Role & Money) For me, none was the case but still, I switched my job & left Bengaluru. Tata Electronics plans to hire over 20,000 additional employees at its new iPhone assembly plant in Hosur, raising the total workforce to 40,000, according to Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran. Currently, 20,000 people are employed there, with over 15,000 being women. Chandrasekaran emphasized that this facility is a modern, state-of-the-art factory focused on producing high-end vehicles, developed in collaboration with Tata Motors and JLR. Once fully operational, it will create 5,000 direct jobs and support a broader ecosystem, generating many more opportunities in the region. This week, let’s delve into Balaprasanth Sugavanam's inspiring journey at Tata Elxsi.   "I joined Tata Elxsi in 2019 as a Senior Industrial Designer after my M.Des from IITG. Initially, I worked primarily on FMCG projects and eventually handled a diverse range of project challenges ranging from home appliances to energy devices, and medical systems. Over time, my role expanded from design and research to client interactions, creating proposals and strategic presentations.   I've been guided by remarkable mentors like Shyamsunder Bk, who instilled visionary thinking by approaching projects and internal activities with foresight. He emphasised future planning and anticipating ahead. Similarly, Prasad Nimbalkar taught me to stay composed and polite, even in tough situations, and to navigate challenges calmly, exploring alternative pathways.  During the times of post-COVID-19 impact, I worked on designing premium storage water heaters for a renowned brand, adhering to a new design language and various technical constraints dealt with through virtual discussions. Clear communication and team synergy helped us navigate challenges, adapt quickly, and deliver a design that met aesthetic, functional, and compliance standards. This significant achievement with the design launch motivated us and provided valuable insights for efficiently handling future water heater design projects. In 2023, I participated in the Young Lead Program as well as a targeted Project Management training program. The company's commitment to continuous learning through platforms like LinkedIn Learning and the Learning Central initiative has facilitated my intellectual growth and updated me with industry trends. Additionally, receiving the ‘Customer Appreciation Award’ in 2022 and 'Stellar Contribution Award' consecutively in 2022 and 2023 has inspired me to strive for excellence.  My motivation at Tata Elxsi comes from diverse projects that stretch my design capabilities, from minor to large-scale appliances, packaging, and multi-disciplinary products, ensuring a stimulating job. “Great idea. But where will you find the money to execute this? Is your father going to pay for this?” This was the feedback I got from a senior executive at Tata Motors in 2008 when I proposed an idea to elevate Tata Indica. Needless to say, my idea was not executed. But I was to be vindicated very soon. Let me explain. Hired as a line manager, I was tasked with auditing the Pune car assembly plant and suggesting improvements. After extensive research, I recommended implementing Daytime Running Lamps (DRLs) on Indica cars, a relatively novel feature in India at the time. However, when I presented my ideas to a senior leader, I was met with harsh criticism and outright dismissal. It was my first job, and I was crushed. Despite this setback, something interesting happened. Over the next few years, DRLs became a common feature in the market, forcing Tata Motors to adopt them. The senior leader missed an opportunity to lead the market, and I missed seeing my idea come to fruition. Looking back, I realize I should have backed up my recommendation with data, showing how trends outside India eventually get picked up locally. The senior leader could have rejected my idea without stifling my creative courage. Always support your ideas with data and never let criticism discourage your creativity. Have faith in your ideas and keep pushing forward. Learn from feedback, but don’t let it extinguish your innovative spirit. #business #work #career
