These sacred structures are more than just burial sites; they are a profound expression of the Berawan's respect and reverence for their ancestors. Carved from the resilient Belian tree, known as Borneo Ironwood, each pair of Lejeng poles supports a coffin placed high above the ground, blending seamlessly with the natural surroundings. The Lejeng platforms not only highlight the community's unique customs but also underscore a sustainable practice of using naturally fallen trees, respecting the forest's cycle of life and death. The absence of clear evidence on temples raises questions about Harappan religion. The decline of this civilization around 1900 BC is attributed to environmental factors like climate change, deforestation, and river shifts, leading to societal collapse, migration, and absorption into new cultures. The Harappan civilization's height, marked by prosperity and international trade, gradually gave way to challenges, ultimately culminating in its mysterious decline.

An amazing initiative that I have seen grow from inception. These types of projects are ideal for facilitating local & foreign investment and bringing the best industry practices in financing and development of cities/urban centers. I foresee at least 4-5 new Cities being built in Pakistan over the next 30 Years given the scale of urbanization taking place, and the sheer magnitude of infrastructure investment required by Pakistan in both Greenfield and Brownfield projects to enhance its competitiveness. Experts put this number at over US$ 400b over the next 20 Years. The interesting fact here is that all this will be done through private sector investment and the use of Public Private Partnerships. Interesting times ahead for all industry stakeholders……
