This silly little scene is our submission for the Honkai: Star Rail Dive Into Dreams 3D Render Challenge. It was a collaborative project between me and my friends Mohamed Hadiri, who did a lot of the props in the scene, and Orest B., who did most of the architecture. Among other things, I was mainly responsible for art direction and lighting. The goal was to get as close to the original art style of the game as possible within the limitations of Unreal Engine 5. Unfortunately, our entry was not selected as a finalist, but it gave us a chance to polish a few areas that we were unable to finish in time. Putting the wheel and the house together to represent an over-used cliche, though this description may seem redundant. This is a different take on the two-word combination in a totally different direction. Festering Tree 🌳 An R and D project I worked on during the start of this year. I wanted to experiment with vertex maps to see how they can be applied to Redshift materials on animated geometry. I have also added an X-Particle system that is emitting from the material because I love using Insydium's tools! The blog is here!! I created an in-depth breakdown of how I approached the asset kit created for Meiyo. This blog includes where I started, how I achieved my designs, all the way through modelling, UVs, creating procedural textures and the custom RGBA mask in Substance Painter, engine implementation and media creation. There are helpful screenshots and timelapses to help people gain a better understanding as it goes along. I’ve tried to provide enough detail and content to help others learn from my methods, whilst keeping it brief!
