What's a quick way to understand what the new government cares about? We encourage our FrankCapability learners to look at the Speech from the Throne. Delivered by the Governor General at the start of each parliamentary term, this speech sets out what the government plans to do. Its language offers important clues for policy people. Here's our take on the big directions the Speech from the Throne is signalling. Meaningful change for kiwis. That means public services demonstrating what they do by measuring their results. Careful use of public money. The government wants to see more rigorous cost/benefit analysis by the public sector. That means not just measuring results, but showing they deliver value for money. Cooperation. Government agencies don't have to be the primary providers of services - communities, iwi and the private sector could have a greater role to play. Infrastructure. Better funding, procurement and maintenance should deliver better results, and drive more value from public spend. International links. New Zealand is looking outwards, and is 'open for business'. If you'd like to keep up to date with the policy landscape, our FrankCommunity newsletter is a great option. Subscribe at https://lnkd.in/gf4KDham

Here are 2 Economic Development websites that CT business people, business associations and policy makers in Hartford should spend time on. Once they have done so, there should be a serious effort made to develop a plan to improve our overall competitiveness with both of these states. https://lnkd.in/e36qUSNW https://lnkd.in/dZzdY4e

Given the tragic events that unfolded last week with the collapse of the Key Bridge in Baltimore, it is clear that local, regional and national businesses will feel the impact. The MD Chamber of Commerce believes "the collapse has effectively severed Maryland's main East-West connection, crippling the Port of Baltimore and disrupting businesses and jobs throughout the Baltimore-Washington corridor." Accordingly, now is the time to make go-forward adjustments to business models to address the potential financial distress for the near and long term. As restructuring attorneys with offices in Baltimore and industry experience (i.e. Hanjin Shipping Co.), we understand the extraordinary circumstances, and hope that industry leaders don't wait to make adjustments, so the impact on Baltimore can be minimized.
