Yesterday I did something terrifying. Something out of character for the person I have become during these last few years as “mum”. The old me, the corporate me, did this stuff all the time. Yesterday I went to a women’s networking event. A networking event that was initiated by me and a couple of kickass women in my community. A networking event that was dreamed up over a cup of coffee and a realisation that so many of us entrepreneurial women quietly existed in the confines of our home offices in our rural, beachside community. Going quietly stir-crazy with a hint of desperation to connect with other like-minded women. Yet at the same time, not knowing that we needed to connect with other like-minded women. We were hoping to gather together a small handful of women to meet for coffee every month. To share our businesses, to share our learnings, inspire each other, help each other, and to build a network we could rely upon. But we didn’t manage the “small handful” we were hoping for. Instead, we had nearly 40 women reach out asking to join. 👏 FORTY! 👏 Forty incredibly talented women in our very small community all running their own businesses from their homes. Juggling their workload of kids, farming, orcharding, full-time jobs…and running their own businesses. There were many familiar faces from school, sports, community events, and so on. But never would I have ever known that these ladies also ran their own successful businesses. But now I do. Because I reached out to them. Because I got out of my comfort zone to make human connections. I now have 39 other women and their businesses standing with me. Referring my business when the opportunity arises. And I’ll share theirs. Heck, I even plan to be a customer for many of them! Never underestimate the power of a strong network. Never underestimate the power of human connection. Never underestimate the power of women in business 👊🏻 Because we don't muck around. The real magic happens in the follow-up. Now, I make it a priority to nurture my relationships over time. I send personalized emails, schedule regular check-ins, and share valuable resources.
