Principles of aseptic techniques in OR room for radiographic technologist: • Only sterile items are used within the sterile field. • Only sterile persons handle sterile items or touch sterile areas. • Nonsterile persons touch only nonsterile items or areas. • Movement within or around a sterile field must not contaminate the sterile field. • Items of doubtful sterility must be considered nonsterile. • When a sterile barrier is permeated, it must be considered contaminated. • Sterile gowns are considered sterile in front from the shoulder to the level of the sterile field and at the sleeves from the elbow to the cuff. • Tables are sterile only at table level. • Radiographers should not walk between two sterile fields if possible. • Radiographers should avoid turning their backs toward the sterile field in compromised spaces. • The radiographer should watch the front of clothing when it is necessary to be next to the patient. • The radiographer must be aware of machinery close to the sterile field, including lead aprons hanging from the portable machine that may swing toward the sterile field. • The lead apron needs to be secured if it is being worn next to the sterile field. • The apron can easily slip forward when raising one’s arms up to position the tube. A properly worn apron does not compromise the sterile field or jeopardize proper body mechanics. • When positioning an IR under the OR table, the radiographer should not lift the sterile drapes above table level because this would compromise the sterile field.

We have a responsibility to the patient and ourselves as sterile processing technicians to innovate and improve our industry. As you probably know by now, my passion for sterile processing has really driven my thinking in how we can improve the environment we work within from a safety and culture aspect. The Barrier Buddy System was designed with the safety of the sterile processing technician in mind. The Barrier Buddy System: 💡Creates a barrier between the inspector and materials produced during the inspection of cannualted devices including but not limited to: 💡Suctions 💡Laparoscopic graspers 💡Orthopedic drillbits The Barrier Buddy System can be used in conjunction with: 💡Borescope 💡Channel Check verification 💡Other inspection implementation tools 💡Flushing tools #sterileprocessing #innovation #employeesafety #patientsafety #infectionprevention #crosscontamination

If all quality steps in reprocessing surgical instruments are carried out correctly, the final step to ensure patient safety is the verification of sterilization. This verification process begins in Sterile Processing by checking the sterilization cycle and concludes with a surgical technician verifying the sterilization indicators. Unfortunately, failures can occur in both Sterile Processing and the Operating Room. To address this, the first step is to validate that the technicians in Sterile Processing are knowledgeable about verifying the sterilization cycle. We have encountered sterile processing areas where there are no technicians with the necessary knowledge to verify the sterilization process. If your sterile processing quality is inconsistent, we can help. Follow us on LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and at https://lnkd.in/gCf3q8b7. Weapon of Mass Microbial Destruction ⚡ Serial Disruptor within Clinical Education ⚡ Content Wizard ⚡ Consultant ⚡ Media ⚡ Marketing ⚡ Mayhem ⚡ Clinical Sterile Processing Expert
This post isn't about surgical instruments, but it could've been. Instead, it's about the people behind them... 🎇 💬 When is the last time you inspected your resume like you inspect those 6 inch Russian Forceps? 💬 When is the last time you inspected your career growth like you inspect that da Vinci arm coming out of decon? 💬 When is the last time you inspected the strength of your professional network like you inspected that sterilization load release? 💬 When is the last time you inspected your leadership style like you inspected that peel pack before you sent it to Room 10? Many #CleanFreaks get really, really good at identifying minute defects in medical devices at a high rate of speed and consistency...and yet forget (or don't know how) to turn that skill set on themselves. Who benefits from you, as an individual, becoming a "better you"? 👉 You, of course 👉 Your team, because then you make them stronger 👉 Your facility, because they become more competitive 👉 Your family, because your job security and opportunities increase 👉 Me -- and every other "potential patient" all around you who may one day very well end up laying underneath a scalpel handle and retractor that you cleaned, inspected, packaged, and sterilized. We want the BEST YOU that there can possibly be. We ALL win when you win. We ALL win when you #DontStopInspectin' Are you ready, #CleanFreaks? Go get it. 💪 #SterileProcessing #Quality #Self #Focus #Impact #WeFightDirty #BeyondClean #SelfLeadership

Sterile Processing folks aren't the only professionals out there who have careers that are difficult to explain and define to loved ones and strangers on the street. 👉 What exactly does an actuary do? Who knows? 👉 When you see “Grip” in the film credits, does that give you any clue to their day-to-day duties on the set? Sterile processing professionals are faced with similar difficulties. It’s not uncommon to meet spouses of coworkers who have been married for many years and still don’t quite grasp exactly what it is their other half does at the hospital every day. “Something related to surgical instruments...?” Yeah, close enough. It’s interesting that if you have the time and enough interest from a friend for them to actually sit down and listen to an explanation of the complexities of our roles, where we sit in the cycle of surgical services, and what would happen if we failed, then the light bulbs 💡 often go on. You can see the shift in their eyes from thinking of us as a cog in some massive healthcare wheel to something more akin to an antilock braking system in a car. You may not think about your brakes every day, but when you do, you remember how vital of a role they actually play in keeping you safe during every single drive. As with most modern professionals today, we place a lot of our identity in our careers. No one describes their friends or loved ones primarily like, “That’s Julia. She likes to garden after work and enjoys Star Trek.” Instead, we say, “That’s Julia. She is a sterile processing technician.” It should be no surprise how mentally grating it can be to constantly have to follow up those introductions with an explanation, nuance, and examples. Wouldn’t it be nice to say, “I work in an SPD,” and have everyone in the room give a verbal, “Ah…” and nod their heads in knowing acknowledgement? Intrigued? CLIA total allowable error As healthcare providers, we understand the importance of accurate laboratory testing results in patient care. That's why we must be familiar with CLIA total allowable error for different tests and its impact on patient outcomes. For those who are not familiar, CLIA stands for Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments, which are federal regulations that establish quality standards for laboratory testing. Total allowable error refers to the maximum amount of error that is allowed in laboratory testing results, and it is crucial for ensuring accurate diagnoses and treatment plans. As per CLIA regulations, different laboratory tests have different total allowable error limits, which are designed to ensure that the test results are reliable and accurate. It's our responsibility as medical lab technologists to adhere to these limits, maintain quality control, and report any errors promptly. By understanding CLIA total allowable error, we can ensure that our patients receive the correct diagnosis and treatment. It also helps us identify potential issues in our lab processes and take corrective actions to improve them. As medical lab technologists, we play a crucial role in delivering accurate and reliable laboratory testing results. So, let's work together to promote awareness about CLIA total allowable error and its significance in patient care. #CLIAtotalallowableerror#Medical lab Technologist #medical lab Technician#

I help entrepreneurs, busy professionals, and small business owners streamline their operations, enhance productivity, and achieve their business goals through tailored virtual assistant services.
From Lab Assistant to Virtual Assistant: The Journey of Dan Durham For over thirty years, I dedicated myself to the medical field, where I honed my administrative skills and developed a keen sense of organization and efficiency. My journey from lab assistant and team leader to an entrepreneur began with a vision to alleviate the burdens of overwhelmed business owners and busy professionals. Humble Beginnings in Medicine My career in the medical field provided me with invaluable experience in managing complex tasks and maintaining meticulous attention to detail. As a lab assistant I had the responsibility of taking on multiple tasks at once. Between drawing blood, specimen processing, running lab tests, entering results, and answering inbound calls, I developed the abilities needed to deal with tasks efficiently. Over the years I took on roles in the assistant position of pathology, microbiology and laboratory. I also took on the role of team leadership by becoming a senior phlebotomist, overseeing teams of phlebotomists and managing rounds at a very prestigious medical institution in Chicago, IL. As I navigated the fast-paced world of healthcare administration while running the teams of phlebotomists as a senior phlebotomist, I realized that my skills could be transferred to a broader context. This revelation planted the seed for TaskSavvy Solutions, inspiring me to bring the same level of precision, leadership, and efficiency to entrepreneurs and professionals across various industries. Founding TaskSavvy Solutions Driven by my passion for helping others and a desire to explore the entrepreneurial path, I founded TaskSavvy Solutions. This week, my sister, whom family and friends call Tefi, matched to begin her surgery residency at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. When she arrived in the United States in 2017, she had one main goal in her mind, to become a Medical Doctor. Today, after years of extremely hard work, including teaching herself English, she has achieved that goal. To fully grasp the significance of her accomplishment, I conducted demographic research myself and came to the conclusion that out of the total population of the country, nearly 336 million people (1), only 457 are Hispanic Female Surgeons (2). What is even more remarkable is that just 114 of them are International Medical Graduates (IMGs) (3). I know it has been a long journey for you Stefania Montero. It is time to celebrate, CONGRATULATIONS, and keep dreaming; there are no limits. You are unique, and according to my study, you are one among 2.94 million people. You are an incredible inspiration to other Hispanic females, I cannot wait to see where this journey takes you! Data: (1) According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the estimated population by January 2024 is 335,893,238 people (2) * In 2020, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported that about 0.3% of the US population or 1.1 million people, are physicians. * According to AAMC.org, 5.8% of all active physicians are Hispanic. * According to medicushcs.com, 3.4% of all active physicians are surgeons. * Statista reported that 23% of Physicians in the U.S. are Women. (3) According to the American Medical Association, 25% of licensed doctors in the United States are international medical graduates (IMGs) #matchday #match2024 #surgeons #hispanics #medicaldoctors #womenempowement
