Artist Winner of the 2024 NASA Innovative Advanced Concepts (NIAC) Program “Imagine Tomorrow” design prize for my Evacuated Martian Airship concept design.
I am currently working on a poster concept design for The NASA Innovative Advanced Concepts (NIAC) Program, this particular design is for an evacuated (or vacuum) airship for use as a rover to explore Mars. Instead using a lighter than air gas to give lift, which would not work on the Martian surface. The ship would use a chamber that maintains a vacuum to displace the thin Martian atmosphere to create lift. Although first suggested in the 17th century, these vehicles remained hypothetical, as material strong enough to maintain structure for a vacuum, stand up to air pressure and be light enough haven’t been invented, but the technology is close. Allowing for lighter than air exploration of the red planet. @packsenduk @iaaa_spaceart @aceagrams #iaaa_spaceart #artscouncilengland #spaceparkleiceter #kennedyspacecenter ## #nasaartprogram #nasaartists #novaspaceart @novaspaceart #artemislive @artemisliveofficial @@firingroomproductions #johnsonspacecenter #spacecenterhouston #spaceparkleicester @spaceparkleic https://lnkd.in/e4K2NxQJ

Happy Pi-Day!! Do you know how many digits of pi NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration needs to make high-precision calculations about the universe? Way less than you'd think. According to NASA officials, the space agency rarely needs to use more than 16 digits of pi (or 3.141592653589793) to make accurate calculations about our solar system and its cosmic neighborhood. Using any longer versions of pi start to give severely diminishing returns, according to NASA. It has been said that NASA has a poster hanging with a photo of a bumble bee that reads: "Aerodynamically a bee's body is not made to fly; the good thing is that the bee doesn't know." Whether or not NASA actually has a poster with these words on it, just by looking at a bumble bee it seems that the laws of physics are not in it's favor. The size of it's wings compared to it's huge round body go against the laws of aerodynamics! But a bee doesn’t know it shouldn't be able to fly... so it does. Perhaps one thing we can learn from this is that it's what we believe about ourselves that determines our capabilities and what is possible for us, not the size of our wings. Maybe we can all be more like the bumble bee and, no matter the size of our wings, we can still take flight.

Watch the NASA X-59 livestream. https://lnkd.in/expc6KBS Quieting the Sonic Boom In collaboration with NASA's Quesst Mission, the Lockheed Martin Skunk Works® team is solving one of the most persistent challenges of supersonic flight – the sonic boom. The X-59 will be used to collect community response data on the acceptability of a quiet sonic boom generated by the unique design of the aircraft. The data will help NASA provide regulators with the information needed to establish an acceptable commercial supersonic noise standard to lift the ban on commercial supersonic travel over land. This breakthrough would open the door to an entirely new global market for aircraft manufacturers, enabling passengers to travel anywhere in the world in half the time it takes today.

Are you planning on viewing today's partial solar eclipse? Do you have solar viewing glasses or will you be crafting a pinhole projector? Because safety is always our top priority, this is your friendly reminder to avoid long-term injuries by not looking directly at the sun during the partial phases of the eclipse. 🌊 NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Perseverance rover has successfully traversed the ancient river channel known as Neretva Vallis on #Mars. Initially considered a path free of rover-slowing boulders, this significant milestone was achieved with the aid of AutoNav, an autonomous navigation system. AutoNav enabled #Perseverance to cover 200 meters to its first science stop in just one Martian day (24 hours, 39 minutes, and 35,244 seconds long). This system allows the rover to make real-time decisions to avoid hazards and find the safest path forward. 🤖 The image was created by #generative #artificial #intelligence to capture your attention. https://lnkd.in/dBFJkW7f
