Today was a tale of two roundtables. This morning a collection of science and tech's finest had breakfast with Sarah Munby. It was worth the early start with some real encouragements about work ongoing in DSIT as well as some clarity of challenges and where CBI (Confederation of British Industry), business and wider sector can help. My to do list has certainly got longer as a result, but also great to hear that areas we're already working on with members have a ready audience, including on Regulatory Innovation Office, Procurement (see my post from earlier this week....), and how ensure R&D pulls through to economic growth. But for today I'll focus on technology adoption. There has been some really welcome continuity on approach to Science and Technology policy - not least with the appointment of Lord Vallance. But one area where there's been a really welcome step change in interest, activity and ambition has been around accelerating technology adoption. Enter roundtable number two. Had the privilege of chairing a discussion between Dave Smith and CBI members on how business and government can work together to accelerate technology adoption in the UK. The discussion really focused on learning from what has worked, what hasn't, and what businesses are doing themselves or with customers. Thank you to all who joined for providing such a rich discussion. Lots to follow up on to inform next steps, but as a first step I'm delighted the agenda is firmly on the table and from both roundtables today it certainly seems to be a case of 'what government will do' in this space not whether. #timeforgrowth #productivity #sustainability

On the first day of the OSPOs for Good Symposium, common themes emerged around trust. Discussions centered on trust built through collaboration, trust in government, and trust in the community. These elements are essential for fostering accountability and achieving shared values, with open source serving as the primary vehicle for these efforts. Planetary Regeneration will need more spaces like the Public Sector Systems Innovation hub so more individuals will better understand that the bureucratic lens can be complemented by the complex systems lens.

The South West looks very different today. We have - like a lot of the country - a different political landscape today, compared to yesterday, not only at a national government level, but also a big shift in local politics with big gains for Lib Dem’s across the Great South West, Labour in Cornwall, and the Green Party in central Bristol. With my Tech South West hat on, we’ll be looking to engage with each and everyone of them to ensure we encourage them to pull the levers needed to fuel the huge potential in tech we have across the region. Our new South West Tech Advisory Board has already held its first meeting, and our political advisor Robert Hillier is already working on our engagement plan.
