“It’s when people grow and develop that they also feel proud and happy in their workplace. Skill as the first course 👨🏫 At BIRN we are committed to giving our apprentices a thorough understanding of the many steps in the moulding process and their importance. We want our apprentices to feel that they are an active and important part of the daily life at BIRN. That's why we've introduced fortnightly apprentice-only morning meetings, where in-depth professional insights into technical issues and foundry technology topics are on the agenda. "I have seen on several occasions that even apprentices who have the day off come to the morning meeting anyway," says Kurt Bjarne Larsen, Foundry Technical Manager at BIRN. "The meetings are a great forum to get a thorough explanation of how we have solved a particular technical challenge and how we will approach it in the future." Last week, one of our Mechanical Design Apprentices, Rhys Edwards, visited Nunthorpe Sixth Form to deliver a presentation to the Year 13s about Intelect and the benefits of an apprenticeship. Being a former student there, Rhys understood the importance of getting the word out on apprenticeships, as he felt it wasn’t spoken about enough during his time in education. Rhys opened the presentation by explaining the different sectors we work in and the wide range of roles Intelect has to offer. He highlighted the commitment we have to our apprentices, and how we value their growth and development in the company. “Apprenticeships weren’t spoken enough about at college, and we weren’t aware of benefits they have. I didn’t know that you don’t have to go to straight into a degree apprenticeship, you can start on your level 3 or 4. The focus in college was mainly on university, but the apprenticeship route was more for me.
