Last night, we co-hosted The Business of Giving: Environmental Philanthropy in Financial Advice with Pro Bono Economics and the Personal Finance Society, supported by UKSIF's Good Money Week.
Our Chief Project Officer, Jack Chellman, began with an evidence-based overview of why advisers should connect clients with climate and nature charities as part of regular financial planning. As Jack noted, there are clients "who want to be talking about philanthropy and our planet."
The event featured a panel of industry experts—Roy Coulson (Head of Proposition, Attivo ), Charlotte Prothero (External Affairs Manager, Pro Bono Economics), and George King IV (Senior Wealth Manager, MASECO Private Wealth)—who discussed the commercial advantages of incorporating environmental philanthropy into financial advice.

Calling all non-profits and NGOs: A rose, by any other name will be costing you.
A great find by Janet Gunter below on how you define yourself will impact your funding.
As I commented below, branding and marketing are two distinct duties. Grassroots groups don't always have large budgets and staff to assign roles and responsibilities to specialty staff.
This report clearly show how you brand yourself will forever impact your capacity to raise the funds to meet your objectives.
I have led many sessions to define what "it" is that they really do, at their very core. I keep reminding leaders to make a distinction between their daily activities and the "way" they exist.
Regardless, my biggest takeaway for this chart is how the whole industry desperately needs a completely new identity vocabulary because the status quo is prejudicial.
A rating of between ~2.9-3.6 is not stellar for incumbent naming conventions.

So philanthropy likes campaigning but seems a bit scared to fund it properly. But there are solutions to all of the perceived risks cited: https://lnkd.in/etupRJ2h
(This report focuses on UK and European funders, building on the 2022 US report "Dollars and Dissent".)
When asked, ‘Have you considered strategic philanthropy?’ many aren’t sure exactly what that involves. Not only can giving back support communities and aid global issues, it can bring different generations together around a common cause. This can strengthen a family bond, and promote a deep sense of philanthropy.

Insights from Bryce Marsden on a long term perspective on philanthropy.
Though behind a paywall so in summary, business should back projects that drive systemic change and support them over long term.

We believe that flexible funding is non-negotiable when it comes to empowering organizations and respecting their autonomy. It supports their freedom to use resources in ways that align with their priorities and strategies.
This approach helps build stronger, more effective partnerships between funders and nonprofits, ultimately leading to greater trust and impact.

I absolutely LOVE working with business owners and learning about their innovative business models.
To the business owners in my network -- If your company is serious about wanting to find ways to give back to the world then it's worth checking out what Jamie Bianchini and his team are doing over at Purpose In Expenses. They help you transform your ongoing business expenses into recurring donations to your preferred non-profits WHILE saving you money. This is truly an innovative business model.
I help businesses transform expenses into donations to elevate impact, culture, and brand | CEO @ Purpose In Expenses (PIE) | Systematic giving thought leader helping companies liberate available capital
A BIG check for a BIG team of visionaries at Beaver Coach Sales and Service who trusted PIE to transform their payments, phone, and internet expenses into a $5,332 annual donation to earthwin.org--helping fund AWESOME youth empowerment and 1% for the Planet environmental projects!
Before Purpose In Expenses, this $5,332 lay dormant in their operational supply chain. PIE liberated this available capital AND saved Beaver Coach over $100,000! Yup, you read that right.
Set up a 15-minute strategy session with PIE team to see how boring operating expenses can become impactful donations to causes you love TODAY!
Spread the good word, SHARE THIS POST, and let's accelerate social and environmental change NOW! Thanks Randen Traughber and Ty Kelly!
