New project: EcoShipYard aims to revolutionise the European #shipbuilding industry by providing tools with which to assess the #environmental impact of ships and shipyard processes. Specifically, EcoShipYard will create and implement an EU-material passport for ships that will enable the source and utilisation of #materials used in shipbuilding to be monitored, and provide crucial handling details on the #circularity of these. Introducing the EcoShipYard project - Empowering EU shipyards/ship owners with tools for assessing ships' environmental impact and shipyard processes - which will create an 'EU-material passport' for ships. Meet VIPIN BALACHANDRAN! A proud alum of the MEL in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering and the winner of the prestigious Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers scholarship, Vipin decided to further his knowledge and skills through the MEL program after working for around 10 years in the marine industry. With his extensive experience and newfound skills, Vipin is now embarking on a new journey, aiming to launch a company where he can apply his expertise in marine engineering. His mission is to aid ship crews in making informed and improved decisions related to sustainability, health, and safety. "At a certain point in my career the troubleshooting itself became routine and I realized that I could have greater impact in a different role. But to do that, I needed to broaden my knowledge in technical areas that were new to me and gain the skills that would enable me to pursue my entrepreneurial vision," he says. Vipin's story is a testament to the power of dedication, lifelong learning, and vision. He stands as a beacon for aspiring engineers, proving that with the right mindset and tools, it's possible to transform dreams into reality and make a positive impact on the world. "I highly recommend the MEL to people who have the passion to learn and improve their skills. UBC has all the resources you need, but it’s like a library – no one is going to be bringing you the book! You need to have a vision for what you want to achieve and it’s up to you to make the most of the many opportunities that are here for you," Vipin adds.
