We don’t just create drawings from data. We get out on site regularly to focus our thinking on the real world too. Yesterday members of our structural and civils teams, Liam O'Donnell and Mike Frazer were out on site doing some ‘ground truthing’ as we prepare for RIBA Stage 4 detailed designs on what will be a new development for Fernham Homes, and which we’re working on with Clague Architects. #civilengineering #structuralengineering #kentconstruction

Human scale. Quite often when architects talk about human scale they’re referring to the height, width, and mass of elements in the built environment. But, the one thing we often leave out is distance and time. The scale at which the typical person is willing to walk -the length and the time that it takes them to do daily activities- is an important factor in creating fully functioning neighborhoods (mixed use). The only way we’re ever going to get better architecture and more cool buildings in this country is if we incentivize capital sources for longer-term holds. If development continues to be a short term financial arbitrage for capital sources, we’re going to continue to get nothing but ugly buildings.
