🌱 🌱 Boost Conservation Impact with Community Engagement 🌱 🌱 A lack of community ownership can be a major barrier to the success of conservation projects. That's where participatory planning approaches like Healthy Country Planning come in. By engaging local communities from the start, Healthy Country Planning — adapted from the Conservation Standards — offers a powerful framework to link non-Indigenous conservation programs with community priorities. This collaborative approach expands a project’s impact and fosters long-lasting success. Curious about how this could work for your conservation projects? Journey North hosts the #MonarchBlitz from July 26-August 4 to help raise awareness and support #Monarch #Butterfly #Conservation The Blitz provides a unique opportunity for individuals and organizations in #Canada, #Mexico and the #UnitedStates to join forces across international borders to safeguard this iconic #NorthAmerican species. Since #monarchbutterflies and #milkweed populations cover such an extensive portion of North America, the participation of #volunteer community #scientists is key for furthering our understanding of these species. In the context of #climatechange, the range of monarchs and milkweed is likely to be impacted, highlighting the need for gathering and analyzing robust, long-term data to better understand #population and #habitat trends. Set up a cat house in your garden this winter 😻 #sharingisappreciated Cat houses in gardens or driveways are crucial for neglected and stray cats, especially during the cold winter months. When temperatures drop, these animals urgently need a safe and warm place to shelter. Many of these cats live on the streets and are vulnerable to harsh conditions. A cat house provides not only protection from cold and rain but also from predators and other dangers. Placing a cat house is a simple yet meaningful way to contribute to the well-being of these animals. With a few basic supplies, such as insulation and an entrance big enough for cats, anyone can create a safe haven. This ensures that the cats have a place to retreat, rest, and increase their chances of survival. Additionally, caring for stray cats can benefit the local community. By placing cat houses, people not only show compassion but also contribute to a better living environment for both the cats and the community. Every municipality should encourage this among residents and offer subsidies for citizens to do so. This rewards responsible citizenship and fosters community spirit between citizens and the city. Taos Land Trust is a small staff, the three individuals would not be able to care for Rio Fernando Park without the help of a seasonal crew. The seasonal crew of youth and young adults, roll up their sleeves day after day and maintain trails and gardens, build benches and friendships, and learn critical life and work skills along the way. Taos Land Trust staff and others provide training in teamwork, leadership, wilderness first aid, CPR, soil health, ecological monitoring, conservation principles, civic engagement and the agricultural history of northern New Mexico. Workers support the broader community, too; every other Wednesday they show up to help distribute food to hundreds of community members at a local food bank. Read the full blog from Darien Fernandez, executive director for Taos Land Trust, to learn how this park gives to the community and the community gives back: https://lnkd.in/e6fWXYET #PowerOfParks #OpenSpaceBlog #Conservation #ClimateChange
