The 3-day #DLRK conference in Hamburg was definitely the right environment to discuss this in a scientific and rational way. With researchers spanning all areas of aerospace, many of them active in #SustainableAviation, some really holistic conversations were kicked off. It's important to keep the scientific rigour in this 👩🏻🏫 🧮, while keeping your Aerospace Ambition ✨ 🚀 From my perspective, defense and #aviation #ContrailAvoidance seemed to take a more prominent spot this year – proven by the overcrowded seminar rooms! While contrails were discussed in a dedicated presentation track it seemed to me that it was less of a "hot" topic overall. Last year, it was practically on every first slide in the major presentations and people were like "I didn't know about this". 👉 Anyone else share this impression?? Dr. Leemüller from DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH gave an excellent presentation on the progress within D-KULT using real-time simulation where the ATC tried to divert traffic around potential persistent contrail (PPC) regions: 🔹 Contrail avoidance is generally doable! 🔹 They have an accepted concept of operations. 🔹 Air traffic controller workload is a bottleneck when avoiding contrails and needs to be taken into account. 🔹 The location of PPC regions affects this workload. 🔹 Safety-critical points have been identified and need further evaluation. 🔹 Another iteration of the visualization on the ATCO’s desk is planned. It was a pleasure to speak today at the #SMMT International Summit in London on the UK’s unique opportunity to be a sports and supercar ‘centre-of-excellence’ for the development of next-generation powertrain technology.   The UK has a rich and proud history in high-performance car manufacturing. But the next-generation of supercars will push the limits of today’s battery technology. We must create the right incentives and attract the right investments into the UK supply-chain to support this crucial transition. In particular, investment in high energy density cell manufacturing will support not only low volume, high-performance automotive applications, but also other key UK industries such as the aerospace sector. In the longer term we expect premium automotive OEMs to also benefit from such investments given the weight and performance benefits of high energy density cells.   We call on any future UK government to seize this golden opportunity and adopt an advanced technology-focused approach to deliver decarbonisation, by supporting the transition to future powertrain technologies, developed by OEMS and innovative suppliers right here in the UK. #McLarenAutomotive #SMMT
