Small to medium manufacturing plays a critical role in the A/D industry. Thorsten Wuest and Michael Morford highlight the need for production capacity and defense supply chain resilience to ensure our "Arsenal of Democracy." As US Manufacturing led the way to victory through WW2 and the Cold War, it's essential to support SMB manufacturing to lead us into the future. Check out the article in the comments and share your thoughts. #manufacturing #defenseindustry #supplychainresilience

Helping companies in the Unmanned Systems space clarify their path forward into new markets and verticals. #UAS #Marketgrowth #unmannedsystems
America has a big challenge ahead of it when considering #manufacturing at scale…. For near anything really. The article is focused on Navy/defense, but this same issue is at the crux of what the #drone industry is wrestling with also on the commercial and #defense side. There is a lot of discussion around : 💵Cost to manufacture in USA due to wages/real estate 🇺🇸 Available domestic/ally supply chain components It’s a good Question Paul Allen that warrants continued discussion. I encourage innovators, investors and OEM’s to prioritize and help build the national capability again. It’s what grew this nation many decades ago and the time is now to rinse and repeat! #unmannedsystems #UAS

Got a new piece out with my co-authors Wilson Beaver, James Di Pane, JV Venable on how we can shift RDT&E $$ into procurement and sustainment. BLUF: RDT&E is growing wildly ahead of any other kind of dollar. Rolling back three or four years of RDT&E growth and shifting it to procurement and sustainment will allow us to build the ships, planes, and munitions we need to prepare for China. https://lnkd.in/e3gtrnDY

With another presidential election year underway, many CNC machine shops are experiencing a period of decreased business. Markets like aerospace and defense slow down spending while awaiting the election’s outcome. However, our efforts in the past decade have positioned us to continue thriving. President and CEO at Robinson Helicopter Company| Delivering Accessible, Efficient, and Safe Crewed and Uncrewed Helicopters
This is an excellent read for anyone in the aerospace and defense industry. It’s a fascinating history of the US production of aircraft that enabled the Allied Forces victory in World War II. Future conflicts are likely to feature hypersonic aircraft and unmanned vehicles (land, sea and air) and US manufacturing is presently ill-prepared to produce at high rates. But all is not lost… the aerospace industry was quite small pre-WWII and we still prevailed. To ensure we are ready when needed, it is importent that more companies commit themselves to manufacturing fundamentals again. We need more skilled workers and factory capacity for castings, forgings, bearings, seals and all manner of chemicals, coatings and platings. We need more metalworkers and assemblers of all sorts. We need investments (private and public) similar to the recent investments in microchips. Robinson Helicopter Company and Ascent AeroSystems will continue to grow and invest in manufacturing here in the US to make sure we are prepared for the future. From the article. “World War II aircraft production shows that it's possible for a complex manufacturing industry to grow incredibly rapidly. But it also shows the limits of that scale up; that even in an emergency some things can only be accelerated so much, and success depends on what preparations have been taken beforehand.”
The time to begin rebuilding America’s industrial capacity is now. A tech-enabled, distributed, and federated manufacturing ecosystem can optimize production efficiently. In WWII, industrial might came not from a handful of “primes” but from companies leveraging capacity for adjacent requirements. Car manufacturers built tanks or airplane engines. Etc. We still have massive capability and capacity in America that we can and ought to tap into. But we need to begin now. #replicator #defenseindustrialbase #americabuilds Justin McFarlin, Anthony Di Stasio, Farooq Mitha, Laura Taylor-Kale, PhD, Vic Ramdass, Ph.D, Christian Brose, James Earl, Jason L. We receive this question pretty often: What does NAE actually stand for? 🤔 Norfolk Assembly Employees. NAE was originally formed when ten Ford employees from the Norfolk Assembly Plant put their resources together to help fellow workers in need.
