The enormous potential of throwaway garments, according to entrepreneurs, can bring in at least US$6.0 billion for Bangladesh annually if cheap exports are prevented and recycling is encouraged. Given the extent of the environmental effects, an increasing number of Western businesses, from fast-fashion stores to luxury labels, are giving priority to clothing created from recycled or other sustainable materials. Bangladesh's largest export industry is apparel, with yearly exports valued at over US$47 billion. According to industry insiders, the manufacturers produce between 0.4 and 0.5 million metric tons of jhut, or cutting debris, scraps, and fluff. Approximately 20,000 to 22,000 dealers work in the jhut industry; they primarily informally handle rubbish, employing 0.6 million people, predominantly women. Around 1.0 million people are indirectly dependent on the apparel sub-sector. #Apparel #Outershell #Outershellinternationaltrading #sourcing #clothing #Manufacturer #Exporter #statistics #exports #fashion #industry #manufacturing #Bangladeshgarment #garment #apparelindustry #fashionapparel #hometextiles #TextilesMarket #GarmentFactory

Pre-owned clothes claim 53% market share in Ethiopia’s textile Industry, ETGAMA study finds A recent study by the Ethiopian Textile and Garment Manufacturers Association (ETGAMA) has disclosed that second-hand garments, locally known as ‘bonda’, now constitute 53% of the textile market in Ethiopia. This surge is largely attributed to the rampant illegal imports of these garments. According to ETGAMA’s 2023 survey, the proliferation of second-hand clothing has become a significant market challenge for domestic textile producers. The survey highlighted that the appeal of bonda clothes among Ethiopians is due to their affordability and perceived higher quality, which are often sourced from well-known manufacturers in Europe and America. We all recognize Bangladesh as a leading exporter of ready-made garments, but let's not overlook the vital role played by sub-industries like trims and accessories. These components contribute significantly to our economy, generating substantial foreign exchange earnings each year. Consider the humble hang tag attached to every garment we purchase. It may seem insignificant, but these tags, along with care labels, main labels, and other accessories, serve essential functions. They convey crucial information such as fabric composition, washing instructions, branding details, and sizing information. In essence, trims and accessories carry a wealth of important information that directly impacts consumers' purchasing decisions. Let's continue to explore the dynamic landscape of our garment industry for further insights and updates. #LPP #Zara #RMG #garmentsupplier #Trims #accessories #corporateidentity #niamoteullah #apparelmanufacturing

#LocalNews Textile manufacturers struggle as illegal “bonda” clothing floods market Ethiopia’s textile manufacturers are facing a growing crisis as they struggle to compete with the widespread distribution of “bonda” clothing—second-hand garments that are flooding the market at low prices. The Ethiopian Textile and Garment Manufacturers Association has raised alarms about the impact of these illegal imports, which are significantly undermining the competitiveness of local producers. The influx of bonda clothing has made it increasingly difficult for Ethiopian textile manufacturers to sell their products. According to the association, these second-hand garments, often referred to as “Taiwanese” in the market, are dry-washed, tagged, and distributed across various boutiques in cities. The problem has escalated to the point where many manufacturers are being forced out of the market due to their inability to compete on price and quality.
