Commissioning refers to the process of introducing a gas infrastructure into operation, while decommissioning takes place at the end of the infrastructure's lifespan when it is ready to be shut down or retired. Commissioning is the process of making sure that newly built or modified installations work as planned, meet the required standards, and can operate safely and effectively. Decommissioning, however, is about safely stopping operations and potentially getting rid of the installation in an environmentally friendly manner.
