I virtually attended the FHSAA BOD NIL Workshop today. It was good to hear all of the different positions and concerns from the varying stakeholders on verbiage of the rule. It was undoubtedly alot to digest, but a few of the discussion points that were most pressing during the meeting were: 1. NIL education for all interested stakeholders; 2. Athletes may not in any NIL dealings utilize the intellectual property or facilities of their high school in print or social media (absent district approval otherwise); 3. FHSAA would require ALL NIL deals be written and not verbal; 4. Hiring of an agent other than to assist with NIL could impact eligibility; 5. Businesses who support a FHSAA member institution may not also support a student athlete attending that institution via an NIL deal; 6. Any proposed NIL deal must be limited to the student's hs eligibility window; 7. Athletes who transfer mid-year are prohibited from NIL for that year. 8. Punishment for violations include: Warning (first offense), 1 yr ineligible (second offense), Permanently Ineligible for HS years. While none of this is final or voted upon this were the touchpoints of much of the discussion. Thoughts? #FHSAA #NIL #nameimagelikeness
