This was such an insightful event! 👇 We had a great overview of the National Civic Impact Accelerator's Action Learning Process and captured lots of insights from participants. My key takeaways were: 🧭 Leadership of civic is key, but can (or should) be at multiple levels, and in partnership with local partners and communities. ☑ Translating intentions into actions is hard, civic delivery plans are needed. 💰 Securing the resources to do civic well is increasingly hard (and getting harder), but this work can't be done well without skilled people, time and money. 💬 Communicating with inclusive narratives helps connect civic activity with real community concerns, and this work is often based on deep relationships that are hard to hand-over. 🤝 Who gets to lead, contribute and shape civic activities can too often be based on existing power dynamics. Part of 'becoming civic' is recognising power imbalances, and where needed, addressing them. Thanks and well done to the fantastic speakers and organisers: Gemma Adams, Zoe Williamson, Dr Femi Owolade, Sarah Rees, Abi Lucy-Lloyd, Katrina Kelly, Helen Featherstone, Laura Poole, Sophie Heaton, John Fell, Rebecca Hirst-Nelson, Julian Dobson & Nick Wright.

Why is Marxism taught at UW? It is an ideology of hate that promotes violence, class warfare, dictatorship of the proletariat, treating humans not as individuals but as members of a class. No country has benefited from Marxism. Marxism is responsible for 200 million deaths in the 20th century. The University of Washington should not hire Marxists for the same reason they should not hire Nazis. Can someone please explain what is going on at UW?
Celebrate the outstanding 2024 UW Awards of Excellence recipients who are being recognized for achievements in teaching, mentoring, public service and staff support. The awardees will be honored at a ceremony in Meany Hall at 3:30 p.m. on June 6. The program includes a one-hour ceremony hosted by President Ana Mari Cauce and Provost Tricia Serio, followed by a reception with hors d’oeuvres, desserts and a chance to connect and celebrate with your team members and the rest of the UW community.

Great to hear from my partner Liz Brownsell and Kieran Smith from Crowe UK at the Independent Schools' Bursars Association annual conference who have just been leading a breakout session about the considerations for independent schools considering diversifying their sources of income via trading subsidiaries. Lots of food for thought! If you are at the conference and haven't yet been to see us at stand 17 in the exhibition hall, please do come along! My colleagues, Abigail Trencher, Charlotte Sloan, Matthew Gowen and I would love to see you.
