For high-risk, non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC), intravesical immunotherapy using Bacillus Calmette-Guérin – commonly known as the BCG vaccine – is regarded as the gold standard bladder-sparing treatment.   However, it’s more toxic than chemotherapy, and since 2012 there has been a global shortage which has greatly affected patient care. But there is a bladder-sparing alternative – intravesical hyperthermic chemotherapy using mitomycin C. Its advantages include: ✅ Improved drug delivery and penetration into the bladder ✅ Enhanced efficiency of chemotherapy in heated cancer cells ✅ The stimulation of local anti-cancer immune reactions.   We’re transforming bladder cancer treatment through our world-leading intravesical, hyperthermic chemo technology, HIVEC®, via the Combat BRS Bladder Recirculation System. The TAR-210 study unveils groundbreaking findings in #bladdercancer treatment, presenting a promising new approach for high-risk and intermediate-risk patients. Johnson & Johnson's intravesical targeted releasing system, delivering #erdafitinib (#Balversa®) locally, demonstrated impressive efficacy with a 90% recurrence-free survival rate and complete response rates. Commenting on the significance of these results, Dr. Prof. Dr. med. Sabine D. April is oral cancer awareness month. Campaign aims to raise public attention to this disease. Oral cancer is often used to describe a number of cancers that originate from the mucosal organ epithelium and localize in the oral cavity. They most commonly occur on the tongue and floor of the mouth, but can also appear on the inner surfaces of the cheeks, gums, palate, tonsils, and salivary glands. The average age at diagnosis is about 67 years. The main risk factors for developing most types of oral malignancies are excessive use of tobacco and alcohol. Tongue and mouth cancer can occur in anyone, but it is more often caused by risk factors. Most of these factors can be eliminated, so oral cancer can be considered a preventable disease. It is important to check your lips and mouth regularly for any unusual changes. If you notice anything alarming, make an appointment with your doctor or dentist to have them examine you. Treatment should be individualized based on the specific clinical situation. Oral cancer is treated with surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy (including brachytherapy). GCT is actively involved in cancer research and drug development. Very good read for the beginning of 2024! For those interested in treating advanced prostate cancer, Lu-PSMA-617 promises to provide the same survival outcomes with improved quality of life after progression on hormonal ablation and docetaxel. Patients with either low PSMA expression, or discordant 2-[18F]FDG-positive disease will still have cabazitaxel as their go to in post docetaxel setting. Agree with Michael Hofman that at least we can conclude that that quality of life during treatment was better with [177Lu]Lu-PSMA-617 than cabazitaxel. less fatigue, diarrhea, neuropathy (sore hands and feet), hair loss, and change in taste in men who received [177Lu]Lu-PSMA-617 versus those who received cabazitaxel sounds like a win for these advanced heavily pretreated patients. #prostatecancer #radioligand #oncology
