Here is a quick test that will help you land more job opportunities going forward:
1st: Set a timer on your phone for ten seconds. Press start.
2nd: Scan your LinkedIn profile before the timer runs out. Now look away.
3rd: Think to yourself, using only the data you collected from scanning your LinkedIn profile: 'Am I able to clearly communicate what I do / have done?'
For most people the answer will be a 'No'.
Welcome to the mind of a lot of recruiters who just reviewed your profile.
To fix this, two things need to be considered:
1. The information should be concise.
2. The information should be specific.
For example:
If you are a Software Engineer, under each role it should include things like:
- The tech/tools used (reactjs, Golang, Python, AWS, Restful APIs, TDD, Kubernetes etc.)
- Perhaps what specific team you were on (Product team, Mobile team, etc.)
- Perhaps how big the team was, did you mentor others, did you help with interviewing new hires.
Each role should have ~3-5 bullet points that are to the point.
In the 'About' section:
You should be able to communicate what you do and what motivates you in about 3 sentences. Writing more than that is up to you, but the first three sentences should do enough on it's own.
Disclaimer: There is no one way of doing anything - the important thing to keep in mind is whether or not someone scanning your profile can quickly see what your skills are and what drives you.
The easier it is to digest, the more likely you will get opportunities coming your way.
