What I stopped asking during interviews: "What is the company culture like?" Some questions I started asking instead: • How does the company support professional growth & development? • What do you enjoy most about working here? • Can you share an example of an employee who was able to grow within the company? • What are some ways that success will be measured in the first 90 days? In the first year? • What are the common themes that you find amongst your highest performers? • What would the first 30 days look like for the person in this role? • What is the standard process for giving feedback? As a founder now, I hope that future candidates ask me the 'hard' questions too. Remember: the interview is a two-way street. Know what you're looking for, so you can ask the right questions!
Post: Always ask the "hard" questions. Me in an interview with an employer: So, if this company had a theme song, what would it be?
Definitely using this one in the future "What would the first 30 days look like for the person in this role?"! I've always asked about growth and mentorships, since I want to show that I am not just interested in joining the company but growing within it!
I asked a CEO about the company culture in an interview this week. He didn't even answer the question. He deflected and talked about growth and profits. So...I figured out my own answer to that question 🙃
Just out of curiosity what's wrong with asking about company culture?
I love this question! "Can you share an example of an employee who was able to grow within the company?" If it's a legacy position, you could tailor it and ask, "Can you share an example where someone in this position was able to grow within the company? What made them stand out?"
I think a lot of jobseekers forget that interviewing is a two-way street! Interview them *just* as much as they interview you! I really love asking the "what does success look like in 90 days" question
Hi Brianna Doe I learned about your job board through an article. I went to the link but I don't see any jobs posted. I thought I'd double-check to see if that should be the case.
I think unfortunately a lot of candidates are afraid to ask these questions --- even though they are GREAT things to know --- for fear that they'll be passed up in favor of someone who doesn't ask these types of questions

4moIf there's one aspect of a company I've found it almost impossible to gauge - unless there are very obvious red flags - it's culture. But I like your question about the standard process for giving feedback. A sales-focused question I ask is, "What's easy about selling [product]? What's hard?"
