It's been nine years since I became the President of AIESEC in India. AIESEC is the world's largest youth-run organization, with offices in more than 110 countries and territories. This experience was special because I was and still am the only non-Indian president of the Organization, which had a membership of more than 4000 people and now is almost 45 years old. When I entered the election process, I was the candidate with the least chance. It was not because of my nationality but because of my AIESEC experience. The other candidates were more experienced than me. A very simple line kept me up: Your life is as beautiful as your courage. I put forward my unadulterated self to a voting audience of more than 500 people and became the President / Country Director of AIESEC India. Fast-forward nine years, and there have been many moments when I have had to keep up with that very simple line. However, once you have tasted the outcome of courage on the other side, it brings out an element of confidence that can be taught. It's difficult to keep up with it, but there is no other way. When I am building Tangible Careers, it has an audacious goal to decentralize credentialing. Don't know what are the odds stacked for/against me this time, but I am going to build it anyway. Hopefully United People of America too🫶 Recalling my memories from International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) by State Department of United States of America and U.S. Embassy in the Kingdom of Denmark What an unforgettable journey to the country. From Capitol, Washington D.C and other political institutions, universities, museums, thinktanks, churches, civil organisations, to countryside, basketball match and visiting people of America🫶 A country I have visited several times. A country I have lived in. A country I have studied in. Even got married in. A country, I am fond of. A land of dreams, diversity and democracy, nevertheless a land that is divided. A country that may need to redefine it self in the contest of world 2024 or just go a back and recapture some of the essence of living democracy “the man/women in the arena” as T. Roosevelt has stated it. “It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. My work has allowed me to visit over 35 countries in the past decade and a half, many of which are emerging from colonialism and imperialism, now referred to as the Global South. As an Indian, I resonate with the socio-economic challenges faced by these nations. Here are some key observations: 1. Colonialism's influence persists, with governments in the Global South pressured to align with global powers. 2. Voices from the Global South are often unheard in the global discourse on democracy and human rights. 3. Tokenism and rhetoric are common, placing subtle pressure on Global South countries. 4. Global media remains a potent tool for shaping narratives and controlling the Global South. 5. Divisions are fostered to maintain tension within societies of the Global South. 6. Hypocrisy is prevalent in global dynamics. It is concerning that many in the Global South are unaware of the extent to which global powers influence their lives. 🌟 From Aspirations to Achievements: My Journey to Becoming the Face of UEW-M 2020 🌟 In 2020, I took a bold step that would not only redefine my journey but also inspire others. Competing for the Face of UEW-Mampong was more than a personal challenge—it was an opportunity to break stereotypes and make a difference. At the time, there was a perception that a lady from an Education (Early Childhood) background couldn’t possibly compete with, let alone win against, others from diverse courses. The idea that we “weren’t meant for that” fueled my determination. I told myself, “I will be the difference.” I wanted to prove that everyone deserves a chance, regardless of their background or field of study. And I did. By taking this leap, I not only claimed the crown but also inspired my colleagues—both in my course and beyond—to believe in their potential and never limit themselves. What this experience taught me: ✔️ Breaking Barriers: Challenge the norms, and you can rewrite the narrative. ✔️ Courage: It’s not about where you come from but where you’re headed. ✔️ Inspiration: A single act of bravery can ignite hope in others.
