Research shows that chronic pain is more prevalent among American veterans than the general population – severe pain is 40% greater in veterans than non-veterans. That's why we've joined forces with Sword Health on the launch of the Sword Foundation. The Sword Foundation will work to improve health inequities by bringing the company's innovative AI Care platform to underserved communities, including our nation's veterans. “We are fired up to join forces with the Sword Foundation, extending high-caliber care to our veteran members. At Team RWB, we often see first-hand the impacts of chronic pain on the health and wellness of veterans. Together, through this partnership, we're providing this group of veterans with support and resources that are ultimately helping them lead healthier and happier lives.” - Mike Erwin, Team RWB Founder and Executive Director. https://bit.ly/3WeCfqg

Highlighting the Challenges Military Women Face in Lung Condition Diagnoses. I am happy to share an article from HealthyWomen highlighting the unique challenges that military women face in diagnosing lung conditions related to burn pit exposure, and sharing my thoughts about some of the barriers I faced in issues being diagnosed as well. Military women (myself included) often encounter additional obstacles when it comes to diagnosing lung conditions. The combination of military service, gender-specific health issues, and exposure to toxic environments such as burn pits creates a complex and often overlooked healthcare landscape. Women in the military must navigate these challenges while advocating fiercely for their health, pushing for recognition and proper treatment of their conditions. 🌟Advocacy is Essential🌟 Burn Pits 360 continues to push forward and shine the light on women’s health related to military toxic exposure. 🌟Join the Conversation🌟 We invite all military women, veterans, healthcare professionals, and advocates to join us in this essential conversation. Your insights and experiences are invaluable in raising awareness and driving change in how deployment-related lung diseases are diagnosed and treated. Together, we can amplify the voices of those affected and work towards better healthcare solutions for all military women. Thank you to Hope Hodge Seck for highlighting this issue! #MilitaryWomen #VeteranHealth #BurnPits #LungHealth #HealthAdvocacy #DeploymentRelatedDiseases #WomenInService

💡 'Voices of My Past'. A Disruption Award Project 💡 What does it mean when someone living with dementia hears voices? This 2023 award saw staff at Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (CNTW) putting #research into #practice. Project Lead, David Storm, told us 👇 "Typically, people with dementia who hear voices are prescribed antipsychotic medication and the voices are treated only as a biological symptom. However, understanding the voices someone hears while living with dementia may instead be closely linked to ‘disconnected’ memories, and sometimes trauma in their past. This can lead us to a different, often very effective, approach to reducing the distress caused to people by hearing these voices.” .... If you or someone you know has an idea that could #MakeChangeHappen for and with people with dementia, follow us and save the date 📅 for August 27th launch 🚀 Is there someone you think should see this? Please share our message ♻️ #Disruption #Change #Ideas #Funding

As someone who’s family has been impacted by ALS, Toronto Star, Janice Kennedy understands the importance of ALS Society of Canada community services and equipment. Working in concert with multi-disciplinary ALS clinics, these services are critical to the quality of life of a person living with ALS and their caregivers. The $6.6m investment in the Ontario Provinvial ALS Program is a fraction of the costs to the healthcare system when people end up in crisis in the hospital or must choose long-term care when they can’t safely stay in their home. We will continue to advocate to the Ontario government to implement this impactful, cost-effective solution to improve the quality of life for people affected by ALS. https://lnkd.in/gE5P9qh5
Thank you, Janice Kennedy, for sharing about your sister Sheila's experience living with ALS and the ongoing impact it has had on you. Together with the ALS community, we’ll continue to advocate to ensure the Ontario government implements our proposed solutions that will provide people living with ALS with a comprehensive continuum of care and a lifeline of hope and dignity. My sister was tireless. If ALS hadn’t claimed her life, I’m sure she’d be knocking on Doug Ford’s door

1 person every 36 seconds. That’s how many people die in the U.S. from cardiovascular disease (CVD). Globally, 31% of deaths are associated with CVD. In keeping with our goal of better classifying a persons #pain experience, Dave and I proposed a 7-axis framework** to help conceptualise the many “drivers” of the overall pain experience. In this multiaxis reasoning framework, several pain drivers may be present in the same person that contribute to their experience of pain to a greater or lesser extent. To date, our proposed framework has, however, remained largely theoretical and implementation stalled without a clear direction for accurately and consistently quantifying the relative contributions of each axis...until now. Lovely to see/read this exciting work from Dave (Pavlos Bobos, and Joy macdermid). Great work, Dave, Pavlos, and Joy. https://lnkd.in/g9-EEqKp #Wellbeing #Military #Veterans ** Walton DM, Elliott JM: A new clinical model for facilitating the development of pattern recognition skills in clinical pain assessment.
