As an organization, always ask: where does the customer come in the equation? Oftentimes, board members and senior executives engage in discussions with me regarding their organization's ambitious and impressive strategies and plans. Without a doubt, many of these growth strategies and initiatives look great. However, when I am asked for my insights, I usually ask them first: what is the place of the customer in the equation? The truth is, no matter how great a strategy is, if it does not position you to win, it will end up becoming useless. Winning, in this sense for me, is not about beating the competition, but winning the hearts and minds of the customers. Everything that organizations do should revolve around the customers and not ego or (strong) personalities. So, as an organization, let everything you do, including the decisions you make, revolve around how to create value directly for the customers, how to enable value creation to take place, and how to improve on both.
