As school leaders, our role goes beyond administrative tasks and decision-making. It involves understanding and supporting our teachers, staff, and students on a deeper level. By building genuine professional relationships and showing that we care about their growth, we create a positive and motivating environment. When people feel valued and understood, they are more likely to thrive and achieve their best. Our efforts to connect with and support each individual can lead to a more successful school community. That kind of success can only be possible if we have a good working relationship with our teachers. If you're interested in knowing how to properly establish that connection, here's a blog I've written for you. ( Link in the first comment) #schoolleader #leadership

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week! We celebrate all the incredible educators who dedicate themselves to our students. But beyond the celebration, let's remember the importance of ongoing support. One major factor impacting teachers is leadership. Unhealthy leadership behaviors, like those associated with narcissism, can have a significant negative effect on morale and the overall school environment. If you're in a leadership position, be mindful of how your actions impact teachers. Recognize that fostering a supportive environment is crucial for retaining and motivating talented educators. #MentalHealth #SchoolLeadership #TeachersAppreciationWeek

MESSY Moments ... So why M.E.S.S.Y? School leadership is messy, because no situation has the same context. Interestingly, many of the top issues raised by #schoolleaders during their coaching sessions were grounded in relational skills – we like to call it ‘the human side of school leadership’. It encompasses situations such as giving feedback, empowering others, getting buy-in, and building collaboration – all of which require highly developed inter-personal skills. Each chapter takes a letter in turn and shares how #schoolleaders have shifted from foundational mindsets to elevated mindsets – resulting in greater leadership success. We make sure that leadership development always starts with "the thing you can do tomorrow". It can't stay abstract. What is the one thing you can do differently than you did today? What's the conversation or feedback you have avoided? The person you haven't checked in on lately? Leadership is applied learning and must be biased toward action. Check out one example of what we call "Lessons in Action" from a Leadership Academy graduate in the comments. I've been thinking about ways to spruce up this giant wall in my office for a while. For the last two years, it has been adorned with giant sheets of paper and sticky notes from a leadership training we did with students. Even though I loved having a reminder about our student leader workshop everyday, it was fading and needed to be replaced. I set up this wall for students to take affirmation/motivation cards and/or write cards for their peers. I call it my "Motivation Mountain." #StudentAffairs #StudentServices #OfficeDesign #HigherEducation
