Join us for our October Meeting where we will be working with Missing Maps! When: Wednesday, October 2nd; 6:45pm social, 7:00pm start time Where: HLB Gross Collins; 3330 Cumberland Blvd SE What: Each year, disasters around the world kill nearly 100,000 and affect or displace 200 million people. Many of the places where these disasters occur are literally ‘missing’ from open and accessible maps and first responders lack the information to make valuable decisions regarding relief efforts. Missing Maps is an open, collaborative project in which you can help to map areas where humanitarian organisations are trying to meet the needs of people who live at risk of disasters and crises.

Thoroughly enjoyed reading FEMA's "Fact Sheet on Art and Culture: Helping People Before, During, and After Disasters". It's refreshing to see how FEMA is positioning itself at the intersection of art, emergency management, and community resilience. As someone who typically focuses on disaster impacts upon housing, infrastructure, and businesses, this is an interesting avenue of exploration. #FEMA #ArtandCulture #CommunityResilience #EmergencyManagement https://lnkd.in/ehaEUQs5

Emergency Management Specialist/Recovery Coordinator at U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)
This report outlines data that confirms what those of us working in the disaster world have known for years. Disasters don't just cause an immediate effect - negative outcomes persist for years, especially for those who are struggling before a disaster. It's a great time to expand our understanding of mitigation to include community systems, social networks, and individual resilience. https://lnkd.in/g9pABpvX
