To ensure the sustainability of energy, a high level of penetration of intermittent renewable generations is favored but increases the probability of islanding occurrences, which endangers the security of the entire electricity system. The proposed method utilizes measured voltage and frequency to develop a fuzzy center of gravity (COG)-based equivalent model of the operated electrical system. The calculated fictitious reactances, represented in terms of local frequencies throughout the system, serve as valuable indicators. By classifying them using support vector clustering over a period of time, islanding is detected with high accuracy. 🔧 Haul Roads & Access Tracks for HVDC Link Have you ever wondered how remote areas like the Shetland Islands are transitioning to greener energy solutions? Our recent project with SSEN Transmissions showcases the innovative use of Naue geosynthetic products in constructing haul roads and access tracks for the Kergord-Gremista HVDC link. • Objective: Connect Shetland’s wind farms to the Scottish mainland • Challenge: Increase subgrade bearing capacity to support heavy equipment • Solution: Naue Secugrid® and Combigrid® products for reinforced base courses By utilizing Naue Secugrid® and Combigrid® geogrids, we significantly enhanced the soft subgrade’s bearing capacity, reduced the need for imported aggregate, and lowered costs and carbon emissions. This approach demonstrates how modern geosynthetic solutions can create more stable and sustainable infrastructure. (Full case study available at https://lnkd.in/eVeXDAmy) 📅 Don't miss our upcoming webinar! Join us on June 12, 2024, from 10 to 11 AM (CET) for an in-depth look at how secure construction roads and crane platforms provide the stable foundation needed for wind and solar parks. Exciting progress in Canterbury as we carry out field TR (Thermal Resistivity) testing for a potential solar development. This essential testing assesses how well the soil dissipates heat, a key factor in ensuring the safe and efficient design of energy transmission systems. For solar projects, understanding the thermal properties of the ground helps guarantee the long-term reliability and performance of electrical cables and infrastructure. Despite the poor weather, the team managed to gather accurate data on soil characteristics, which will help optimise energy efficiency and support the sustainability of this project. #renewableenergy #thermalresistivity

I can highly recommend this excellent report which gives a great insight on solar thermal technology for district heating networks and its references. This report was written by numerous authors from research and project development under the direction of Silas Tamm and Magdalena Berberich from the German research institute Solites. Source: https://lnkd.in/dzHC78dv (Solarthermalworld.org) "The authors want to widen the perspective on solar district heating opportunities: “Up to now, high-performance flat-plate collectors and evacuated tube collectors have been state of the art for the integration of solar heat into district heating networks operating at medium temperatures between 80 and 120 °C. However, other collector technologies, such as parabolic troughs and linear Fresnel collectors, can provide heat in a wider temperature range and might offer greater efficiency at different temperature levels and other advantages over the currently used systems, such as tracking and the possibility to control the heat yield,” as it says in the executive summary of the report."
