Coldplay’s Low-carbon Tour ‘Set a New Standard’🎵🎶 Kinetic dancefloors that turn dance moves into green energy helped Coldplay reduce emissions by 59% on their latest tour.🌱 That’s according to data verified by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), US, which said the band had set a “new standard for the music industry”. Eighteen shows were powered by a battery system made from recycled BMW batteries. The band arrived at some shows by train, cutting plane emissions. And for every ticket sold – 7million so far – a tree was planted via the global reforestation nonprofit One Tree Planted. Prof John Fernández, who reviewed Coldplay’s data, said the band was “modeling a trajectory toward a low carbon, biodiverse and equitable future” that set a benchmark for the industry. 🎶 Lastnight I saw Coldplay in Sydney part of their Music of the Spheres World Tour— This was my third time seeing them perform live and wow, they just keep getting better. Their shows are always an experience, but this one felt next level. What stood out most (besides the incredible music and production quality) was how much Coldplay is putting into making a positive impact to our world. It’s not just talk—they’re walking the walk when it comes to sustainability, and every ticket goes toward their commitment to the planet. Some highlights that blew me away: 🌍They’ve cut 59% of their CO2 emissions since their last tour, using things like battery-powered stages, solar energy, and even floors powered by the audience's movement! 🌳They’ve planted 7 million trees across 24 countries. That’s a real, lasting contribution. 💡Those glowing wristbands? They’re 86% reused, so they aren’t piling up as waste. ♻️72% of their tour waste is recycled or composted. And on top of all that, Coldplay just has this digital focus and crowd involvement that make it impossible not to feel a part of something bigger. Chris Martin must have thanked us at least half a dozen times for being there, and you could tell he meant it. A Concert with Conscience: Lessons from Coldplay's Sustainability Journey Last week, I had an incredible opportunity to attend the Coldplay concert—a band that doesn’t just make music but also inspires action. What stood out to me (beyond their electrifying performance) was their unwavering commitment to sustainability. Coldplay has been actively rethinking the way live music tours operate, incorporating renewable energy (i.e., Utilizing renewable energy to power their shows), reducing emissions, and engaging fans to be part of the solution.Their efforts remind us that innovation and sustainability can go hand-in-hand. As I watched them seamlessly integrate purpose with passion, I couldn’t help but reflect on my own journey in building the ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) practice within my law firm ANB Legal. The legal counsels play a unique role in helping business enterprises align with their sustainable practices and comply with evolving ESG frameworks. It’s about guiding organizations to think long-term, innovate responsibly, and act ethically. Coldplay's vision resonates deeply with what we aim to do in our ESG practice - help organizations strike that delicate balance between purpose and performance. Whether it’s crafting sustainability-linked contracts, navigating climate regulations, or fostering corporate accountability, we are committed to assisting our clients make meaningful progress toward a better tomorrow. If Coldplay can reimagine concerts, surely, we can reimagine business practices. Here’s to learning from the unexpected and finding inspiration in every experience. #ESG #ColdPlay #sustainablesolutions

I’m deep in this topic right now. Producing sustainable events is a major focus for me and this article delivered the tech and supply chain facts I need!
The live events industry and the festival industry in particular, is amidst a sea change in how events are powered. As they explore viable alternatives like batteries, there are many emerging technologies and practices that can be adopted by TV and film productions to make on screen entertainment greener: https://lnkd.in/gw42m5Uz 🌱 #Lollapalooza #sustainableproduction #decarbonization #mobilepower #solarpower #Reverb

Without downplaying the good causes that Coldplay seem to be funding, a few things seem like problems here: - The metrics provided on their site are packed with carefully worded caveats, and most tend to be relative or proportionate rather than absolute - No raw data, full methodology or any other type of disclosure is provided For example: "Over 3,000 tCO2e saved by purchasing Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) for flights" -> relative to what? Which fuels? Where were they sourced? "17kWh average power per show generated via in-venue solar installations, kinetic dance floors and power bikes - enough to power the band’s C-stage performance each night" --> Honestly, cool! But there really isn't any reason to leave out the baselines here: how much power does a Coldplay concert require? On what grids? Are they helping to integrate and incentivise clean power in other ways? I don't want to trash these efforts but truly, the careful lack of disclosure makes it very hard to strongly support them, and impossible to contextualise them. https://lnkd.in/gJeZzmzS
