If you're selling outsourcing then the trust factor looms large. No organisation will or should, put key functions out there without a level of confidence. Which means your pitch must be based on continuity, security and of course be beneficial to budgets. Ideally reducing overall costs! And to frame the right message, you need to understand the client rationale. Why are they outsourcing? Usually access to expertise, reduced risk and cost are key drivers. But it can also be event driven such as a major transformation, expansion and or acquisition. Your sales message should obviously align but more importantly, so should your contract. It is after all binding your business to firm legal commitments that really build client confidence. That skin in the game scenario which should be augmented by strong contract management. To help the contract achieve the ask but also to protect your own business. Outsourcing contracts by their nature, must be strong on service levels and obligations. In most cases driven by client business needs, given the contract now makes you part of them. At least for the duration of the contract. But as well as meeting client objectives you mustn't forget your own. The challenge of meeting client objectives and your own now comes into sharp contrast. Achieved of course through effective Contract Management. Ensuring obligations are met, performance is aligned to service levels and business dialogue firmly resides in the executive/strategic space. That dual function of acting as a function of the customer while growing your own sales revenue.
