The majority of deals investors secure originate from their network. Either other investors, ex founders they have backed, or their close alleys in the startup ecosystem. Unfortunately, there aren’t many women entrepreneurs in that close network. That’s why Even Founders organises 1:1 pitching events for diverse teams and investors. This is a great opportunity for founders to skip the ‘warm intro’ that many investors prefer, and pitch directly to partners. Last week we had one such event with Nordic Makers where 7 teams were selected to pitch. I attended Next powered by Shulman Rogers "Next Raise" event last week for some excellent networking and learning from the investor panel. Here are the takeaways I gained from listening to the panel's responses. 1. The explanation of the problem you're solving should be clear and concise. If it takes too long to explain the problem you're solving, they lose interest. 2. Spend no more than 10% on your story slide. 3. Team and Tam are the two most important components investors look for but it's not everything. 4. Don't rush the team slide. 5. You should have a great differentiator. 6. Know who you're talking to. 7. The investor has to understand the problem and share a passion for it. 8. Everything is "figure-out-able" 9. It's all about execution in terms of progress. 10.
