Recruiters and hiring managers, take note! A recent recruiter e-mail I received left me shaking my head. The job description was for a position located 500 miles from my home in San Diego, CA. Other than the position title, this is the entire Job Description: 4 days in office (M-TH) no exceptions MUST BE LOCAL, No exceptions NO relocation Start date: ASAP interviewing options this week! While this is probably the most extreme example I have seen, there are plenty that come very close. With a tech unemployment rate of 1.8%, it's time to rethink recruitment strategies. When we started Ocho, we knew that this was a new, rapid market that we were working in. Candidates were finding themselves on the market due to redundancies, the end of a contract period or they simply left a role to find a better role. Clients were also coming to us, needing staff to start within a few weeks. Certainly less than one month. With this in mind, we have created QuickStart. A portal that will allow employers to review or source candidates that can commence employment in the short term. Less than a month, and sometimes within a week. Hopefully by shortening the path from candidate to client, we can add value at a time that can be incredibly stressful for both parties.
