I really enjoyed cyber night takeaway and having the opportunity to talk about our approach to testing and security monitoring. Thanks to Liam McQuade and Sarah Copley for involving us :) Takeaways… 👾 Being able to combine perspectives is the only way to develop a threat-informed defence. Testing makes monitoring better. Monitoring drives better testing. Scoping tests properly and control mappings are essential enablers to achieving meaningful outputs which (over time) will improve your posture and incident readiness. 🤖 AI isn’t magical, but it is useful. We can use AI to automate some tasks in testing and some tasks in monitoring. This is an area where there is a huge amount of growth potential and opportunity. The hype around AI is already making it difficult to navigate the product and feature landscape… 🔎 AI is a data problem first and foremost. As defenders, AI is a data governance problem in the short term and an emerging telemetry blind spot. As our citizen developers use AI to change the way they work, we’ll need to rethink how we monitor these new services, processes and data flows. 🦾 Logging and monitoring is still hard. Cloud is another level of hard. SaaS is another level still. Whilst the uptake of cloud, SaaS and AI isn’t slowing down, we still need to catch up on how to monitor and protect what matters most. Speaking to your MSSP and security partners about how to get the most from them is mission critical.
