A little over a month ago a hosted a tech meet up in Minnesota at @yemenicoffeemn I have been fortunate enough to meet so many tech pros throughout the country during my adventures. I thought to myself, if I know so many people , why not connect these individuals with other practitioners within their respective city? Why not create an environment where those who are looking for their next role can make an ask to another? Regardless of how early or how seasoned they may be? How valuable would it be to gain a friend, a mentor, or a mentee within your own city? How valuable would it be if that one connection gave you a potential business partner or a referral to a highly competitive role? It only takes one connection to potentially change the trajectory of your life. My hope is that this event created solid connections that pushed individuals respective career forewarned. I wanted this event to be an inclusive environment where everyone can walk away knowing that they in fact belong in the tech space so long as they commit themselves to their self development. Safe to say this event had such a positive impact on me and reminded us the importance of creating opportunities for others. I had such a fun time in Minnesota, shall we run this back again? Let me know! 😁 “We cannot seek achievement for ourselves and forget about progress and prosperity for our community” - Cesar Chavez #tech #TechMeetUp #community #belonging #learning #opportunity #yemenicoffee #Qamaria #eachoneteachone #education #selfdevelopment #cloud #data #software #Security #engineering #stem

Sick to the stomach 🤢 That’s how I felt after I royally screwed up my first webinar yesterday. This is how it goes down. I had two girls who had completed the Tech Career Paths 4 Girls initiative speaking about their perceptions of tech, and experience of the program. We’d done a practice session, they were excited. Then one of them told me, “I need to leave early for school photos.” She’d just started high school and didn’t want to miss out on the class photo. I’m agile, I switched the schedule to have the girls first and the overview of the program last. A few people joined, we kicked off, more people joined during the girls’ panel. When the girls finished everyone left 😲 No one heard about the initiative, the pitch. Big opportunity lost. I should have started with the program overview and results. A rubbish business decision which cost me leads and a hit to my reputation. Later, the mum of one girl messaged and said how excited and proud of herself her daughter was. It would stick with her forever. Later again, the other girl messaged and said the head of her school had asked for details of the webinar so they could share with the school community. Less than two weeks into high school and the head of her school knew of her. Why did I start this business? To have a positive impact on as many girls as possible. So was the webinar a good business outcome – 🤑 Commercially…no way 👎 ❤️ Alignment with my core values…smashed it out of the park 🏏💪 When I think of the moment everyone dropped off, I still feel queasy. But I made a business decision inline with my values and that is what will drive my success in the long run. Be true to yourself, because if you’re not, what’s left? #staytrue #techforgood #womenintech #girlsintech
