Calling all tech founders in the EU/UK...we need YOUR voice! 🗣 Our partners at EURO_GENDEX (a new initiative under the European Innovation Council’s Horizon Europe program) have launched a survey, and they need to hear from you! 🌟 Their mission is to improve and expand the diversity of talent across the entire European tech ecosystem to drive world-class performance and growth. GENDEX will help policymakers and investors to make better-informed decisions by providing data and insights into the journey of diverse founders, particularly women, from pre-seed to IPO. 💪 Their survey aims to collect relevant information on how diversity impacts the fundraising journey for start-ups and scale-up founders in the European innovation ecosystem. I was truly honored to join the TechFoundHer Festive Celebration: Building the Future event at MCS Group. The vibe of this event made me think about what community is. One definition says it’s “𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘧 𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘳 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘤𝘦𝘳𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘯 𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘶𝘥𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘰𝘯.” And that’s exactly what I felt with Máirín Murray and #TechFoundHer_community —an inspiring group that brings together strong personalities, role models, and, most importantly, honest stories. Stories of successes, failures, and, yes, even the fckups that shape the journey. I don’t see myself as particularly startup-y or entrepreneurial, and yet I deeply believe in fostering a culture of allyship for women in tech entrepreneurship. Especially when the statistics speak loud and clear: only 1 in 4 tech companies in Ireland has a woman on the founding team. We can, and should, do better. I also couldn’t resist stealing a few pearls of wisdom from the incredible female founders who shared their journeys: ✨ Imperfect is perfect ✨ Keep going! ✨ Educate yourself ✨ Network and support matter ✨ Feeling of being depressed happens—even for no reason, and that`s part of a journey ✨ Barriers you see might only exist in your head ✨ Focus on your moonshot and goal ✨ We’re going to do it anyway! Sounds a lot like a New Year’s resolution list, doesn’t it? A Powerful Start to the Year The Demo Day of the Transitioning to Tech for Women Programme was an inspiring gathering of innovation, energy, and possibility. It was great to share the stage with brilliant minds like Gbeke Oshinowo of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, Zainab Rahima Aminu of UNDP, Sonia Onovughakpo Fajusigbe from the Netherlands Consulate, and our dynamic moderator, Kayode Ladeinde of @TVC News. During the panel discussion on The Business of Tech, I shared how Aruwa Capital Management is committed to investing in female-founded and female-led businesses. At Aruwa, we believe in providing funding to underserved founders, backing businesses and ideas that meet critical needs while driving inclusive growth. By aligning capital with purpose, we aim to unlock the full potential of women-led and women focused enterprises, which we see as critical drivers of economic and social transformation. The pitches at the Demo Day reaffirmed our belief that when women are given access to funding and resources, they deliver bold, impactful solutions. Seeing their passion and creativity reminded me why this work is so important—not just for individuals, but for the communities and economies they uplift. Kudos to Dingba Peter for convening such a meaningful event and for the incredible work you’re doing to create a platform for startups to access the resources they need to thrive. At the event, it was an honour to receive the first award of 2025, receiving the Outstanding Women in Tech Award (OWITA), an honour that I cherish. This recognition reflects not just my journey but the collective efforts of those who believe in the power of women to lead, innovate, and create lasting change. I left the event inspired and optimistic about the future seeing so many female founders with impactful businesses. Amazing event hosted by April Hicke of Toast yesterday as part of Vancouver Startup Week! "Men in Tech" - If you think "What? Why do we need another men in tech event?" you aren't alone, but this wasn't your usual panel! We've got to hear "I don't know how to answer that question." more than once, as those men (who were amazing sports btw) were confronted with questions that women often get asked during interviews or by investors. The questions revolve around combining family and business, detached from the individuals capabilities and their business trajectory. It's no secret that we still have ways to go to achieve equality in business but with champions like "Boss Boy" 😉 Diraj Perkash Goel , Dan Box who got his seat at the table, Alain Rivère who definitely will have his priorities challenged soon and Ve Sharma who is a great MAN founder I am hopeful that the business world will see a big shift by the time those two little men in the picture will need to earn their seat at the table.
