Workiva revenues rise 15% 5. Existing #datacenters in Southern Company's territory used 17% more electricity in Q2 of 2024 compared to Q2 of 2023, Bloomberg reported. 6. The immense #energy demands of data centers will likely require building #naturalgas burning power plants, #solar and #windfarms and perhaps small #nuclearreactors, said new American Electric Power CEO Bill Fehrman, according to Bloomberg. 7. Aucto has launched ARS, an asset lifecycle management platform for the #manufacturing sector. ARS helps asset managers to "recover fair market value from surplus and obsolete industrial equipment, machinery and parts," Aucto said. M&A and FUNDING STUFF: 1. Infintium Fuel Cell Systems, a #hydrogenpower cell maker, has merged with Goldenstone Acquisition. 4. Accenture has acquired #BOSLAN, an engineering and consulting firm that assists customers with #energytransition projects. 5. 🌊 🚀 Last week we closed our seed financing in Equinox Ocean Turbines! 👇 Equinox Ocean Turbines BV, a leader in ocean current turbine technology, announced the successful closing of its seed funding round, raising €2.4 million. 🌍 The round was led by EIT InnoEnergy, with participation from Damen, NV NOM, Friese Ontwikkelingsmaatschappij - FOM, Init Power, and two private investors. This funding will accelerate the development and commercialization of Equinox’s turbine technology, which harnesses ocean currents to generate clean energy. The funds will support the construction of a pre-commercial turbine by 2025 and expand the company’s global presence. 🔋 CEO Pieter de Haas emphasized the importance of collaboration in making ocean current energy a reality. The technology promises a reliable power source, crucial for the energy transition amid the challenges faced by existing power grids. The investment leverages Damen's maritime expertise to fast-track development, aiming to have the first turbine operational within two years. It is easy to come out with such statements - and indeed many companies do regardless of their plans - yet much harder to actually act on them. Which is why I take a lot of pride in what we have managed to achieve at GO plc. From the year-round educational efforts of GO Green that reach anyone working at GO to the detailed reporting on the progress of our efforts to minimise negative impact in the financial statements published last week, there is a lot going on to do right by such a statement. Yet there's even more than that. Two years ago we acquired a controlling stake in SENS Innovation, an energy solutions company that has developed it own solutions that allow companies to efficiently manage their energy consumption. Today we're complementing that deal with the acquisition of a controlling stake in AQS Med Ltd. We see this as a fundamental move that will allow GO to bring the spheres of technology and energy closer together. Happy 2024 LinkedIn Over the past months, I’ve been quietly building Home Energy Foundry. I’ll share more on our team and product in future posts - today I want to share my journey and Home Energy Foundry’s mission. Working with Australian energy retailers while at the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) showed me new technologies would motivate homeowners to play an active role in their home’s energy use. A second career as a product and analytics leader in UK consumer startups showed the transformative power technology had to drive behaviour (for better or worse). So at the end of 2022 - a moment when the UK was experiencing energy, climate and cost of living crises - I decided to build a company to give people control over their energy use. "How Big Things Get Done" has a brilliant quote - saying ambitious goals are best tackled by “thinking slow and acting fast”. I had a lot of time to think during a year that included testing a D2C advisory service (which “failed”!) and speaking to ~100 industry leaders. I learnt that UK buildings are deeply wasteful in their energy use. 60-80% of the energy used in our homes is to heat “space” - replacing energy lost by inefficient buildings. As we decarbonise our built environment and switch boilers to heat pumps, this also creates an enormous cost to homeowners and society - to build and regularly replace complex mechanical systems, upgrade our electrical infrastructure and build new sources of energy generation. Surely we have no other way to get to Net Zero? Wrong. We can instead (first) retrofit homes with durable and natural materials to make them insulated and airtight, and enable them to better utilise natural sources of energy. This drastically reduces the need for heating - with some “passive homes” eliminating heating altogether. Home Energy Foundry’s long term mission is to make deep efficiency retrofits a financial reality for ALL UK homeowners, and realise the best possible future for our built environment. How?
