The story of how Zach Aarons and MetaProp established New York City's largest proptech accelerator: In the early 2010s, New York City was experiencing significant growth in various tech sectors like fin-tech, ad-tech, and ed-tech. (Also called "hyphen-tech.") Startup activity was flourishing, but real estate was being left behind... Zach and the MetaProp team founded their firm in 2014 with the goal of recreating this energy for the real estate technology ecosystem. Since then, MetaProp's Accelerator Program has focused on providing early-stage proptech companies with mentorship, industry connections, and guidance on go-to-market strategies tailored to the real estate industry. They didn't set out to be generalists like Y Combinator or Techstars—they focused exclusively on real estate. Today, their accelerator is an integral part of the proptech ecosystem, because they know exactly what they are...and what they aren't. #realestate #proptech

Startups often ask, "When is the right time to begin engaging with strategics?" In this #LSIEurope23 panel, Biren Mehta, VP, Venture Investments at Johnson & Johnson, and Nate Harrington, Managing Partner at Philips Ventures are both in agreement that startups should begin talking with strategics as early as possible. The goal of these early conversations isn’t necessarily to secure funding. It’s more about building the relationship and introducing your technology to strategics. There could be scenarios where a strategic may want to get involved early, depending on your company's technology, pathway, and goals. Engaging in these discussions allows startups to understand what pathways are available to them, so it’s important to begin these discussions early on. You can watch the rest of this panel, Behind the Buyout: Navigating Strategic Partnerships & M&As From Both Sides of the Table, on our website and YouTube channel.
