📢 Empowering Grantees: A Capacity-Building Workshop 🎯 Yesterday, Technical Assistance Unit (TAU) - Support to the Criminal Justice Reform in Ethiopia Programme, funded by the European Union and implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) International Services led consortium with DCAF - Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance had the privilege of hosting a capacity-building workshop for our grantees from the Federal Supreme Court and Ministry of Justice. This workshop, part of our ongoing commitment to empower our grantees, was designed to equip them with the tools, knowledge, and confidence needed to drive positive transformation within the criminal justice system. 💬 The day was filled with interactive sessions, group work, and insightful discussions. Our grantees had the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of their role as change agents. The workshop fostered connections among grantees. They shared experiences, challenges, and best practices, laying the groundwork for collaborative efforts. 🤝 We are incredibly proud to see our grantees already starting to practice what they learned. Participants will gain a better understanding about the objectives, results, as well as planning, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting processes, including the use of OPSYS and the the overall Programme of Support to the Criminal Justice reform. 🔍The workshop will provide insight on the EU Grant contract financed by the European Development Fund (EDF), financial management and communication and visibility. We're delighted to share insights into the ongoing progress of our project: "Final Evaluation of the joint program 'Strengthening Peace and Human Rights: through Transitional Justice, Combatting Corruption, and Promoting Transparency'." This initiative is instrumental in fostering peace, justice, and transparency in the metropolitan area of San Salvador. 🎯 Objectives and Scope of Evaluation: Our primary goal is to examine how our project is contributing to promote transitional justice, combating corruption, and strengthening transparency to address impunity and uphold human rights. We are assessing relevance, effectiveness, efficiency, coherence, and sustainability, identifying unintended consequences and lessons learned. 🎯 Specific objectives include: - Sharing lessons learned and best practices for future peace-building programs. - Evaluating the validity of our Theory of Change. - Assessing the merit of implementation strategies and performance. - Identifying the added value of our project to national peace-building efforts. - Recognizing innovative aspects of the program. - Evaluating the effectiveness of cooperation among involved agencies. - Identifying catalytic effects resulting from project implementation. 📅 Temporality and Program Objectives: The evaluation period spans from February 2021 to August 2023, aligning with the project's implementation timeframe. Geographically, our efforts have centered on the metropolitan area of San Salvador. PROMOTING AN INCLUSIVE LEGAL FRAMEWORK FOR POLITICAL PARTIES IN HAITI 🇭🇹 UNDP, in partnership with BINUH and the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, had the privilege of supporting and participating in the recent dialogues on the legal framework for political parties. Minister of Justice and Public Security Carlos Hercule and María Isabel Salvador, Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti, were present at these discussions. This inclusive process brought together not only representatives of political parties but also those from civil society, demonstrating the importance of a collective and participatory approach. This consultation is a crucial step toward establishing a more transparent and equitable political environment, where the rules are clear and where everyone, including citizens, can play an active role in strengthening democracy. Every individual in Ethiopia has the inherent right to life, liberty, and security of person. What does this mean? 💫 Right to Life: No one shall be arbitrarily deprived of their life. This right is protected by law, and the state is obligated to take all necessary measures to safeguard it. 🆓 Right to Liberty: Everyone has the right to liberty; this includes the right to freedom from arbitrary arrest, detention, or exile. 🛡 Right to Security: The state is obligated to protect individuals from harm, including violence, torture, and other forms of ill-treatment. The findings reveal significant legislative failures and a disconnect in priorities between Lebanon’s political leaders and its citizens, compounded by narrow political and financial interests that hinder development-focused policymaking. I had the honor of delivering Albania's National Statement at the UN Security Council Open Debate on Conflict Prevention. During my address, I emphasized the following points: - the importance of using human rights and human rights information as a valuable set of tools for peacebuilding and preventing conflicts. - the significance of accountability for violations of International Humanitarian Law for preventing future conflicts. - the full, equal and meaningful participation of women and youth in peace processes and decision-making can give an immense contribution to conflict prevention and resolution.
