MEP Commercial Construction Recruiter | Staffing & Recruiting | President of Optimized Personnel Solutions
How much does it cost to have an open position at your company? 💸 I’ll use a Project Manager role as an example.👷♂️ Here’s what I typically see when that role is open: Scenario A: A senior-level person (Director, Owner, etc.) steps in to cover the role. 💼 Costs: That person is no longer focusing on sales, operational efficiency, finances, etc. They may also have less time for family, fitness, friends, etc. Scenario B: The workload is distributed among the remaining project managers. 👥 Costs: Overworked employees are more likely to leave your company. They’re also more likely to make mistakes that damage relationships and chances for future business. Scenario C: With less working capacity, fewer contracts are pursued and signed. 📉 Costs: Fewer contracts = less revenue. We get it. Recruiting is expensive and it can make sense in the moment to use the cheapest means possible. Throw up and Indeed. See what happens. But in many instances, these perceived short-term savings can turn into long-term losses. #Construction #Recruiting #Jobs #Hiring

◆ | People Person | A Construction Talent Acquisition | Professional Resume Writer | Farmer ◆ I AM HIRING - SUPERINTENDENTS & PMS ALL ACROSS THE US
So, I just got off the phone with a potential candidate for a Project Manager position with a large, reputable General Contractor in the Chicago area. This candidate had an extremely impressive background, excellent experience, great tenure and I could check every single box in regard to the experience our client was looking for. However, this candidate on the communication side was not very friendly. He was bossy, overly-assertive and circled the entire conversation on himself, instead of listening attentively about the company and the opportunity. To me this was a red flag 🚩. Often, as recruiters, we get excited when we come across the "perfect candidate" and we want it so badly to work out. However, we have to take a step back and think about our relationship with the client and ensure we are providing them with the most suitable and qualified candidate for their culture and for the role itself. Here are the top 3 things I prioritize when screening a candidate: - I assess the candidate's background, experience, and tenure to ensure they align with the requirements of the open position. - I evaluate the candidate's communication style, paying attention to their friendliness, assertiveness, and their ability to engage in a two-way conversation with active listening. - I identify any red flags, such as a self-centered communication approach, and consider the candidate's compatibility with the company's culture and values. These key elements provide a comprehensive view of the candidate's suitability beyond technical qualifications, emphasizing the importance of interpersonal skills and cultural alignment in the hiring decision. It only benefits both parties in the long run! 😊 #recruiting #recruitinglife #thestruggleisreal #staypositive

Engineering Careers - Is there a 3rd way? Reflecting on my choices upon graduation as a Civil Engineer, I recall a binary decision: Consultant or Contractor. However, in my journey, I've discovered a third path that I not only enjoy but also recommend to others. Working with Hilti Great Britain, a pioneering manufacturer of technical construction solutions, has provided me with a multifaceted role: * I serve as a technical expert across various construction domains, with my knowledge expanding annually. * Every decision MUST involve buildability, safety and understanding the planning, costing, and implementation of solutions. * I contribute to company-wide initiatives for our end users - such as software rollouts, training, and management. * I get to provide service solutions (technical consultancy, design packages and more.) * My role extends beyond traditional civil engineering boundaries, encompassing sectors like structural, architecture, fire safety, energy, and industry. * My career path is flexible - my direction is as open as my interests - marketing, project management, sales and my choice today --> Training and Mentoring others. This career satisfies numerous aspects of my professional and personal fulfillment: technical expertise, commercial acumen, entrepreneurship, autonomy, and ongoing self-improvement. Approaching twenty years with Hilti, I marvel at how swiftly time has passed. A quote from Simon Sinek shared by a colleague resonates deeply: "Doing work you don't like is STRESS, doing work you do like is PASSION!" I look forward to seeing all our new starts - graduates and more experienced Engineers - find a Hilti home where they can develop into their best self. I invite you to contemplate this "third way" - let me know if you agree - and consider how it aligns with your aspirations. If intrigued, explore through the link below. https://lnkd.in/eK6Z7JZT #hiltiatheart #whereyourbestbelongs #engineering #makingconstructionbetter

Every now and then I get asked by a hiring manager struggling to fill a vacancy “how many [insert whichever discipline] engineers do you currently have on your books?” But is this the right question to ask? Whether it’s 0, 1, 50 or 100 engineers “on the books”, a more important question to ask is “what’s your approach to finding candidates that align from an experience, behavioural and cultural perspective?” After all, we could have 100 engineers “on the books”, but if none of them align to the role and organisation, that number is hardly relevant. Take quality over quantity. #engineeringjobs #hiringstrategy #qualityoverquantity

Are you a constant learner? There’s always something new to learn in the recruiting world. 2020 - When I started as a recruiting intern, I had little knowledge about the job profiles I’d source for. Today - I source for 5-8 job openings daily. Two years ago, I somewhat knew what a project engineer, project manager, preconstruction manager, estimator, superintendent, executive, or hiring manager did day to day. But connecting with people has always been a source of energy for me. It became my greatest teacher in my job. Here’s why you need to find the right network of people around you: - You build lasting relationships - They help you advance your career - Not knowing something never becomes a barrier If you’re a learner, every person you meet becomes so worth it! P.S. How do you keep learning in the construction industry? #ConstructionRecruiter #ExecutiveSearch #Networking
