HERE ARE 5 QUESTIONS YOU CAN ASK TO IDENTIFY YOUR SHOP'S UNIQUENESS📋 Have you ever been at a loss for words when someone asks you what’s unique about your business? It takes a powerful offer to persuade someone to leave their current job and join your team. And powerful offers are created around features and benefits that you can offer and others can’t. Powerful offers can also be crafted through unique combinations of common features and benefits. We ask over 90 questions when we hop on an onboarding call with a new client/shop to get to the core of their uniqueness so we can write compelling ads that attract good technicians. I’m going to let you in on a shortcut. Here are the top five questions that will help you zero in on what makes your shop unique: If a tech told you, "I've got 2 other shops I'm talking to, why should I go with you." What would you say? If you could describe how you operate in three words, what would you say? Do you have a company mission or a vision of the future? Something that employees can get behind and be a part of. It should be short, interesting and inspirational) What do your employees say about working for you? What do they like about working there? What would you say that your company culture is? (Examples: team oriented / family oriented / Individual achievement oriented / goal oriented / etc.) Don’t run another help wanted ad or conduct another interview until you’ve taken 25 minutes to sit down and really think about the answers to these questions. Just the simple act of thinking through the answers to these questions will change the way you communicate with candidates. It will magnify your certainty… …it will demonstrate strong leadership… …it will make every conversation you have more persuasive. And that means, you get to have a fully staffed shop filled with high-performing team members.🔧 #Jobs #Staffing #Employment #StaffingAgency #Repair #Auto #Hiring #Automotive #Mechanic #Technician #TechnicianFind #AutoRepair #AutoRepairShop

"Ever wonder why you can have ads out for weeks and not get any decent applications?🤔 It might not be about pay or location or even benefits. It's probably about TRUST. Here's the game-changer every shop owner should know about building rapid trust and credibility in their help wanted ads! First the truth: trust is hard to come by. I tell the story all the time in podcast interviews about the tech who told me that “every shop says the same things to get you to come on board and you never know what you are getting into till you go to work at the shop and by then it’s too late.” Guess what? Every tech that reads your help wanted ad is thinking the same thing. And techs that think you are full of B.S. don’t apply. And… Every missed application is a potential top-tier employee slipping through the cracks. It’s a bad situation for the technician too because it's a missed opportunity for them to finally find a reliable workplace that matches their culture and values. It’s loose, loose. I've seen incredible technicians skip out on great opportunities because they didn’t have enough information about the shop to trust the new environment. So, just do this… Add a link to your customer reviews in your job listing. This lets you showcase your credibility instantly! Online reviews have been proven again and again to be the most powerful source of third party proof and validation that a product or service is worth investing in. And it can work for your shop! Want to make sure that your repair shop stands out in the sea of job listings and has the clout to pull applications? Make trust-building effortless. Add a link to your top customer review platform in every one of your help-wanted ads from now on. You’ve spent years of blood, sweat and tears gaining those hard won reviews. Now it’s time to put them to work for you! Technicians deserve to know they're joining a reputable team. And you deserve to have A-players helping you to build your dream. Build that trust and watch that trust pave the way for top-tier talent to join your team. 🌟🔧 #Jobs #Staffing #Employment #StaffingAgency #Repair #Auto #Hiring #Automotive #Mechanic #Technician #TechnicianFind #AutoRepair #AutoRepairShop"

Bad system for finding techs: "I want to find a tech. So I'm going to grab a help wanted ad template from my business coach or something generic I find online, add my shop information to it and post it on a job board." Good system for finding techs: "I want to hire a tech. So I'm going to block out 30 minutes at my desk to brainstorm all of the reasons why my shop is a great place to work." Now you have the foundation of a help wanted ad that a tech will actually want to read! #Jobs #Staffing #Employment #StaffingAgency #Repair #Auto #Hiring #Automotive #Mechanic #Technician #TechnicianFind #AutoRepair #AutoRepairShop

Sign On Bonuses 101: If you don't need to offer one to be competitive in your area, don't. This isn't going to be a dealbreaker for a strong candidate who resonates with your culture. Don't offer anything ridiculous like $10,000 - $15,000 in your ads. Most techs have been or know someone who has been burned by this dealer scam. They know they will never see this $ and it's total B.S. It will hurt your reputation. If you are negotiating with a tech one-on-one, you can offer anything you both agree to that sounds fair. If you are running an ad that lots of techs will see, $2K - $5K is the sweet spot. Pay out a portion when the box drops then the remainder over 30 / 60 / 90 days. Sign on bonuses grab attention but they won't be the primary deciding factor for the right candidate. #Jobs #Staffing #Employment #StaffingAgency #Repair #Auto #Hiring #Automotive #Mechanic #Technician #TechnicianFind #AutoRepair #AutoRepairShop

Every shop owner's nightmare: watching a harmonious team get torn apart by a bad hire.🤬 Ever hired an automotive technician only to watch them disrupt your team's harmony? It’s amazing how much damage one bad apple can do in such a short period. A single bad culture fit hire can lead to a domino effect, damaging team morale and your shop's culture. The solution? Discover your core values - and write them down! In How To Be A Great Boss, Gino Wickman shows you exactly how to do this very quickly. Step 1 - Think about three people in your business today that you admire and wish you could clone. Step 2 - Think about the qualities, actions and character traits that make them such a valuable asset. Step 3 - Write these character traits on a piece of paper and examine them carefully (your core values lie somewhere in this list). Step 4 - Select the top 3 - 7 (less is more) that clearly articulate what you value and stand for as a business. Now you have a concrete list of character traits to evaluate every new prospective team member during the hiring process. The more traits they align with, the better potential they have of fitting in with your shop culture. Of course this process won’t guarantee that every hire you make is a rock star culture fit but it will make those bad hires fewer and farther between. So dive into this simple process today and shield your team from the next potential tornado threatening to tear through your shop.🚫🌪️ #Jobs #Staffing #Employment #StaffingAgency #Repair #Auto #Hiring #Automotive #Mechanic #Technician #TechnicianFind #AutoRepair #AutoRepairShop

It sure seems like every day I see another post on LinkedIn saying, "Hire for attitude, not experience." Or, "Stop searching for smart hires and find someone who gets stuff done." I assume that when these people need an auto mechanic, they just find any stranger on the street with a cheery disposition and say, "here's my car, please get some stuff done." Ok, ok. Jokes aside. Yes, attitude is important. Yes, productivity is important. And I DO like this advice for entry-level hires. But, most people in our LinkedIn networks aren't entry-level. We aren't hiring people to "get stuff done". We hire people to be the expert, and to tell US what to do. We hire people to discern the best things to prioritize and then to do them with excellence. I would much rather you work 5hrs per week on the right things than work 50hrs "getting stuff done." That's why we need to look for some level of intelligence and experience. Or. Maybe I'm reading into this too much.
