The #1 Reason Technicians Ignore Your Messages. 🌟 Ever wonder why techs ghost you after the first call/email/text and stop responding? It’s because you didn’t make a connection with them. There are two critical steps that you need to accomplish during your first communication with a technician candidate… Step 1 - Find out if they have the basic skill sets you need in your shop (of course this won’t be perfect on a quick call but you can get an idea). Step 2 – Grab their attention and set the stage for the next conversation (phone interview, in-person interview, shop visit, etc Do you hear crickets when trying to follow-up with techs? It’s because you didn’t do step 2. Ask these two questions on every initial call from now on… 1. What’s going on that has you checking out new opportunities at the moment? 2. If we were sitting down one year from now and you were to look back over the previous 12 months and all your personal and professional goals had been accomplished, what would that look like? With two simple questions, you now know what problems and frustrations the tech is having with their current shop and what they want to accomplish personally and professionally over the coming year. This is all of the information you need to craft a compelling employment offer, and keep their attention when communicating in future conversations. Show them that you listened. Show them you care. So, write these two questions down on a sticky note and post them above your phone so that you have them handy whenever you hop on a call with a prospective team member! #Jobs #Staffing #Employment #StaffingAgency #Repair #Auto #Hiring #Automotive #Mechanic #Technician #TechnicianFind #AutoRepair #autorepairshop

🦄 Recruiting Leader | Partners in innovation & growth for businesses | We Make The Hiring Process The Best Part of Your Day
Career gaps and short stints in jobs are common. Sticking around when your work life is hell or the job is not suited to you is the problem. The best thing you can do is leave and do something else. Don't stay because some recruiter told you it's not 'Okay to have the short stint or gap'. The better fitting company for you will value that you left because the fit was not right and not you. Most good firms in my opinion, want to hire you, to do you. https://lnkd.in/gVx7GneZ

3 things you can do right now to get better quality technicians to apply🤫 I talk to shops all the time who tell me that they aren’t getting applications from the experienced and knowledgeable techs that they’re looking for. First off, let me give you a reality check… After generating over 100,000 applications over the past 6 years for independent shops, I can tell you that 1 in 4 applicants will be specifically qualified for the position that you are offering. Yep, 25%. And that’s if you have a great ad and you’re advertising in the right places where techs hang out. It seems that great ads not only attract great techs but they also stir the blood of every backyard mechanic who's changed their own oil at one point in their life. So, if you aren’t getting 1 qualified technician for every 4 applications you receive, here’s what you should be talking about: -MONEY - competitive compensation (salary + benefits) -RESPECT - open door policy / listen to ideas / acknowledgement (shop culture + communication) -GROWTH - professional and life skills training with a pathway to advancement (life works inside + outside of the shop) There are lots of things that good techs want in a shop but after talking with hundreds of techs, I’ve boiled it down to the big three categories above. Make sure that you spend some time getting clear on what you offer within each of these categories and then talk about them in your help wanted ads. Talk about them on your phone calls. Talk about them with your tool guy. Talk about them in your social media feed. Never forget, there’s risk involved in applying for a new job. Make your shop compelling enough to overcome that risk by talking about the big three.👋 #Jobs #Staffing #Employment #StaffingAgency #Repair #Auto #Hiring #Automotive #Mechanic #Technician #TechnicianFind #AutoRepair #AutoRepairShop

📣 Vehicle Technicians - Get Your CV Noticed! Want your CV to stand out? Here’s my advice on how to make it work for you: 1. Show Off Your Skills Don’t just say “carried out repairs” - explain what you specialise in. Whether it’s diagnostics, electrics, or air con, highlight the tools you used and the problems you solved. Example: “Expert in diagnosing and programming vehicle modules using advanced diagnostic tools on a wide range of makes and models.” This tells recruiters exactly what you bring to the workshop. 2. Highlight Your Brand Expertise Worked at a dealership? Mention any brand-specific training or tools you used. It shows you’re not just any mechanic - you’re a specialist with real brand knowledge. 3. Use Specialist Agencies Skip the mass CV blast. Stick to 1 or 2 specialist automotive agencies that know the industry inside out. They’ll avoid sending your CV to the same employer multiple times and will get you in front of the right people. Key Takeaway A well-structured, detailed CV, supported by industry-specific recruitment agencies, will help you land the right role faster. Keep it focused, concise, and relevant!

Technician shortage? 🧐 Is it real? I get 100+ calls a month from dealership owners who want to know why recruiting technicians is so "difficult" I think there is just a shortage of dealerships being prepared. Here's what I mean: The reason that you cant get technicians or fill other roles in your company is because you are only putting job ads on sites like Indeed when YOU have an open position. However, that might not necessarily be when a great technician is actually in the market for a job. You should have ads out 24/7 You should be building a database of contacts. You should be PRO-ACTIVE with your talent acquisition efforts. Imagine if for the last 4 years you had been building a database of technician contact info. Do you think you'd have any issues with recruiting? Definitely not. All you would have to do is login to your database, send out a text blast to everyone, and get interviews setup right away. This is what I am helping dealerships with on a daily basis: - Simplify your recruiting process - Build a database of talent Invest now, to make your life easier in the future: https://lnkd.in/e2NdfFGU
